Testing nutrients on King Oyster
#23497670 - 08/01/16 06:19 AM (7 years, 5 months ago) |

Starting a new thread as an expansion of my original "Golden Oyster" section.
----
First things first lets look at the fruit body composition for nutrients. Here is King Oyster and here is Oyster, change both to 100g.
We can see there are differences, I will list them here: King Oyster: (-) Vitamin C, (-) Chromium, (+) Iodine.
So I will do the WL Tek, and add some seaweed.

The seaweed tonic can be mixed with SPF.

I've made my test substrate and it is now fully assembled.
----
Recipe:
2.5ml > Miracle-Gro® SPF or LPF. 0.6ml > Yeast Nutrients. 0.6ml > Seaweed Tonic. 100g > Dry Pellets.
Im using 80% substrate water content, same as before. And the grow up style, spawn at the bottom.
----
Notes so far:
King oyster utilizes Iodine during fruitng. Iodine is present in fruit formations.

All seeds have regrown, even seed debris. Time to respond 12-14 hours.

Thats a good, but expected result so far. Fast, white and thick growth.

Here are day 1.5 images. Thick, dense growth, no rhizomorphs.

Again same result, all is eaten, even the seaweed. The paper is being colonized rapidly.

Here are day 2.5 images, less aggressive than Golden Oyster.

I've made another sample, which is the latest recipe, with added pet pellets. I also added 0.6ml of seaweed tonic for added Iodine.
Lets see what happens, and compare.

Got some extra good news, the pet pellets contain probiotic bacteria. That I already knew, but now I find that they kill, eat blotch.
They work along side the mycelium as a defense. I found this lovely news here, enjoy.

ahh very cool. I wonder if this is why your golden oysters kept so well? Or at least part of the reason.

No, I did not use pet pellets with the Golden oyster samples. No probiotics at all. Not the reason for the increased preservation. Simply a strong strain.

I'm using "Burgess Excel Adult Rabbit Food" which is £3.60 GBP, $4.70 USD, for 2kg. In total, full recipe, per 100g roughly, it costs me £0.20 GBP, $0.26 USD.
Ingredients:
Grass, Oat Bran, Wheat, Soya Bean Hulls, Lucerne, Peas, Yeast, Molasses, Mint, Soya Oil, Calcium Carbonate, Monocalcium Phosphate, Ligno-Cellulose, Fructo-oligosaccharides 0.25%, Salt, Vitamins and Minerals, Contains Natural Antioxidants.
----
Here is the first sample after 5.5 days, and the new sample after 18 hours.

So far the latest recipe is looking slightly stronger.

Ferather, your the man! I just read the article, and it seems really promising in the prevention of blotch, this is great news for the Agiricus industry as well. Well, testing will need to be done, you should make a recipe with it and then fruit it in conditions that would for sure induce blotch.
