My expectations change, I usually need to listen to something with more "meaning" and depth than usual, but all forms of music seem to be greatly enhanced while having an experience.

I can't do songs that are too fast or too manic (depending on the psychedelic).
A good example is the Beatles' Being for the Benefit of Mr. Kite. Lovely song if I'm not tripping, but when I'm tripping it's too much. Too manic, too clashy, too fast, not fluid and comfortable enough, the whole song just puts me on edge from the first note. Can't do it. Likewise, fast stuff or overly heavy stuff isn't enjoyable to me while tripping even though I normally like that stuff.
I much prefer something like Fixing a Hole which I don't normally really care that much about when I'm not tripping, but it's lovely when I'm tripping.

I feel the same.
I like groovy, slow things that put me in calm headspace because i'm already in such a chaotic place in my head. The grateful dead obviously are just spectacular to listen to while high on psychs. I was listening to Clementine Jam earlier.

I listen to psychedelic rock when I'm sober and psychedelic rock when I'm tripping so for me it doesn't change but for many other people it does change. Some of my friends I couldn't even get them to appreciate classic/psychedelic rock without giving them a psychedelic and then playing it for them.
People listen to shitty music when sober that's why, or at least sober people do.

All depends how I feel at the time. If anything it makes what I already listen to that much more intense and enjoyable. I could listen to Beyond Creation one min then put on ASAP Rocky the next during my trip. I just like lots of flava when tripping hahaha

My taste changes. For the most part, I like music with less lyrics. When I'm not tripping, I listen to what I guess you would call underground gangster rap. When sober or tripping, I'm very picky with my rap music. Most of it I don't like. It has to have certain lyrics, beats, and flow/feel. I rarely like a whole mixtape or album, and usually only take a song or two from it. Sometimes I even listen to dark stuff, like chopped and screwed three six mafia, or maxo kream.
When tripping, I'm more likely to enjoy psychedelic rock, especially live outdoors, with no voice just instruments. I also almost always prefer bass music over rap. I'm still picky with the bass music though, and don't like alot of it. I also don't like it on shitty speakers. There have been times when I heard a new rap song, that really captured emotion and had good lyrics, and really enjoyed it tripping. I usually don't, and def don't like the dark stuff tripping. It sounds like garbage.

Does my taste in music change? Most definitely, when I'm tripping music sounds much better typically. I'm gotten to the point now where I actually prefer hearing something new or haven't heard more than a couple times during a trip than something I'm familiar with. It seems more magical for some reason. As far as genre that varies for me with mood tripping or not.

I never really understood why people listen to Bob marley while tripping. Just seems too strange and too alien of an experience to listen to something like that.

Thats the beauty of music. Everyone gets something different from the same sounds. To one it may be repulsive but to another could be the most beautiful music they ever heard. Its all subjective..I find listening to death metal to be overly positive for me.

Can you elaborate what you mean by experience? Is it the overall message thats conveyed in his music? or the lifestyle that it may represent or something?

Since I was a kid I've been a big fan of Elton John, Bob Dylan and early Genesis. While tripping, that music does nothing for me. It sounds weird and fake to me. Also, I can't stand listening to stuff I've heard a million times, which pretty much kills all classic rock for me.
When I trip I like to listen to music that I don't have much patience or attention span for normally. Long prog-rock songs by The Flower Kings, Steven Wilson, Yes, or jams by Miles Davis, 1970's fusion music like Mahavishnu Orchestra, Return to Forever, Jean Luc Ponty. I love that stuff but I don't pay much attention to it when in a normal state of mind.

I'm saying that it's not really based on music tastes entirely. I like Bob Marley but I'm just not going to listen to Bob Marley while tripping for the reasons I stated as well as a few other ones. Just because I don't listen to something while tripping doesn't mean I don't like that thing.
I don't think this is a question of why people's music tastes are different the real question here is why do people prefer certain kinds of music in certain contexts. For example why is there 2 people who listen to Bob Marley but only 1 that wants to listen to it while tripping? That's the real question here or "beauty" here.
To metaphorically compare music to drugs...it's not like asking what drugs you take it's asking you why you take those drugs in a certain context.

I feel people listen to certain styles in those settings or context because it would add to thier experience tripping or not. Its like how if someone was to have a very formal dinner they may play classical music in the background to set a certain feel or mood to the setting even tho they may not even listen to it at all otherwise.
I wouldnt say you dislike a band based on the fact you dont enjoy listening to them high. I listen to alot of music while tripping but everyones different. I might not be feeling the music that could be playing even tho I'm a big fan of the band but thats normal when I'm sober anyways. Its just whatever youre feeling at the time tripping or not.
