What's wrong with it you have trich? If so are the fruits still good enough to eat cause I had a green spot on my tub I just put some salt paste on it

It depends on the contamination. Trich isn't attacking the fruitbodies so I'm good. And yeah, trich!

3rd, and possibly the last flush from this tray. Might just see what the 4th brings?

Harvested a few bottom left corner then remembered to take a pic first for you guys, if you were following my thread here ( https://www.shroomery.org/forums/showflat.php/Number/23311437/fpart/all/vc/1 ) of the first and second flushes .

your spawn was likely a bit bacterial since you have so many deformed fruits. or if you used poo based substrate and didn't get pasteurization just right, but if that's the case consider yourself lucky you got fruits at all. you can loosen up the top poly to get more air, put the light closer

like that for example.

I would avoid misting while you have questionable fruits since spraying spreads bacteria. let it chill out for a few days with more FAE and more light. then if you need you can mist it heavily and or dunk it. continue with the more open holes and heavy on the light. Fresh air and light help keep the caps dry and bacteria from being successful, you would rather have just slightly cracked caps at this point than fucked up caps with bacteria.

Does bacterial spawn cause mutation? I've never known that to be the case. I know that it creates an avenue for trich to take hold on the substrate, or the bacteria blooms out of control, but I haven't paid attention to whether or not it causes mutation.

Finally have some actual fruiting pics to contribute!! :whoo: first ever very mini mono coming along!

So I took the slightly bacterial jars I posted before and spawned them to a few 27qt minis which are finishing up colonization right now, and are all KSSS. I also used the couple jars of treasure coast to mix up some CVG double gulps & a 6qt lil mini tub.

The 6qt & cups colonized in about 9-10 days then started pinning and this is the mini today! (12 days from spawn) :vaped: hope all looks well!! I'll post pics of the double gulps within a few days. I noticed some fuzzy feet on some of them, not appearing to be too bad, but I adjusted the poly and had a couple good fannings today to increase the FAE and hopefully remedy that.

There's also what I believe to be bruising, I'm assuming as a result of misting or it being too dry. I didn't mess with it at all waiting for full colonization and when I saw the pins beginning I wasn't sure until they matured a little. Then I increased FAE and began misting. My sub was on the dry side to begin with though and so I assume it's just bruising related to one of the above and nothing to worry about. But y'all tell me!

I have some clean cultures on agar ready to be put to grain, and hoping to have some CLEAN spawn to work with soon! But being new, and finally getting jars to 100% after a couple failures, I had to spawn these just to see. Seems like it'll be worth it (:

Rainy here and warm, extra humid. - I need to look out - Thought the old man.
Then suddenly a cube emerged from the poop trashdune.

Then he quickly walked to the vegetable garden, where spent cakes mixed into horsepoop and dirt. - Oh my ... - Another head emerged

I suspect that what most people call mutation would be better described as deformity. A true mutation should carry over via cloning or be able to be stabilized into lineage with a high frequency of recurrence. Stuff like rosecombe, hairline, conjoined fruits, etc, are often the result of either contamination,  physical damage and conditions.

Really, I didn't realize that contamination caused these things. I thought conjoined fruits was just something that randomly happened, especially with PE!

"randomly happened" is a more accurate description than mutation is what he's saying.

Lol... You would think so nowadays. PE is a 'strain' of cubensis with certain traits selected for. I wouldn't necessarily say mutation, though the genetics have become quite unstable and mutation prone.

IMO conjoined fruits is less a contam issue and more environmental. I have a clone that is very stable and puts out quite normal fruits 99% of the time. But once it did split a cap between two stipes.

However things like hairlip I suspect are often symptomatic of white molds while rosecombe often points to elevated CO2. Upside down fruits and divers seem to herald the arrival of trich.

Real mutations like albinos, penis, KSSS saucers, rust spores carry over generations and can be cloned for consistency.

Well then you'd be mistaken because it is technically a mutation, given that it's a variant from the normal phenotype of cubensis, and is stored genetically.  The world mutation holds too much connotation, we fail to remember stuff like green and blue eyes are mutations.
