Yeah it's way better using propane burners, I have only done it a with stove in a few pinches when I realized the propane tanks were about empty or something. The sterilizers seems great, can you get say up to 50 lb.s of grain loaded in one those like a 941?

I have no idea. I have a 25x which for all intents and purposes is half the capacity of a 941. I can sterilize 4 5 quart spawn bags in one go. I've never actually weighed them but they feel like about 5 pounds each. You could probably fit 8 or 9 in a 941/75x

Eno, how do you feel about a 2x2, I have been looking at builds and debating on it for a while now. I cant decided if I should go 2x2 or 2x3. Seems like 2x3 would be nicer for bags. I really want to build a hood and be done with it. I would hate to build a 2x2 and feel like I should have made it bigger you know.

Well I know some will say this isn't going to work or it'll take forever; so I'll let you know how this works out for me. I'm planning to run my 941 on a Broil King 1500w single burner hot-plate.
I'm just waiting for it all to come in the mail.
I have a 38,000BTU propane burner as a backup(I really don't want to have to use that).

I bought a small hotplate to power my PC (A large Presto Aluminum PC). It was small, I think 800 or maybe 1000 Watts. It started to heat things up but then cut off (perhaps due to overheating?)
so then I bought a single burner 1500W induction range and since aluminum is not supposed to be used with an induction range, I put a flat cast iron plate between the range and the PC. It also overheated and gave an error message.
I found non-induction 1200-1500W hotplates online from a restaurant supply store but they were at least $150, sometimes as much as $300. Some of them were 120V normal household plugs and some had 240V plugs. Either would be fine for me, but I don't really want to spend $150+.
I also have a propane burner and was using it outside (technically you aren't supposed to use it with a PC like mine, but I did anyway). It heats the PC quickly and efficiently for little money/fuel, but it leaves lamp black (carbon) residue on the bottom of the pot. This doesn't seem like a big deal until it is all over your clothes and countertop and everywhere else around the house. It is rather difficult to clean off.
Perhaps I will make a thread about all this soon.
I hope that burner works out for you though.
Edit: I forgot to add that when I was buying the first hotplate I looked at some that were 1500 W and some of the reviewers were saying that the instruction manual/specs sheet that came with the thing only listed the max power as 1100W, even though it was listed as 1500W, so do be weary of that too.

I love the 2x2. It works great for spawn bags. I don't have a single complaint. I'm sure one day I'll want to build a 2x4 hood but I've never been working and wished that the hood was bigger. It suits all my needs.

IMO the only reason to get a hood bigger than 2x2 is if you're gonna have multiple people working. I've worked in front of a 2x4 with another person and we didn't get in each others' way one bit.

Alright fair enough. Thanks for the info. I will probably go with a 2x2 then.

You'll love that size. I almost cheaped out and bought a smaller filter, but I'm so glad I ended up springing for the 2x2. A smaller filter would have been fine, but when I work with large spawn bags I'm really glad I got the 2x2.

Fuck yeah! That's a badass impulse sealer too. What kind is it? Mine isn't that good.

What type of blower is that? It looks like a Dayton, but which model. The reason I'm asking is I have a way overpowered blower. I'm not planning on building another flowhood any time soon, but it's all information that's good to have.

Thank guys. It is really fun using this. I already have a dozen spawn bags colonizing
The impulse sealer is made by American Electric International, it's the 16 inch model.
The blower is the Dayton 1XJY1 A, 1/2HP and 1860CFM @0.8inch SP. The blower comes with 4 different negative leads, so that you can decide which lead to wire the control switch to. Each lead provides a different blower speed, so that way you have a bit of control without needing to install separate speed controller.
I also bought a 1941X sterilizer, and 1000 0.5 micron filter bags from Unicorn.

Okay. Yeah that's a little beefier blower than mine, which is a Dayton 1TDU2 1202cfm. It's overpowered for my 2x2' filter, so I have it on a speed controller, which is nice because it's mounted to the front of my work table and has a power switch as well. I'll take a look at that impulse sealer because I'm not completely happy with mine. I have to turn it up all the way and fire it 3 or 4 times on the same spot to get an airtight seal.

Ever since the 16 inch impulse sealer arrived I've been wondering if I shouldn't have gone with a regular 12 inch version. At the time I figured it might make things easier but not it seems needlessly large. I've never used a 12 inch one but I figure that would probably be more practical, so it might be better to not get the 16 inch unless your planning to use jumbo bags.
I run the 1860cfm blower on the second fastest setting out of 4.
