Flow Hood 1

I built this flow hood in 1 day. It is 12"x24"x16", modeled after the series 1 from fungi perfecti and stonesun's flow hood. It is a dream come true, makes mycology purely fun again and not a pain in the ass haha..Anyway, the reason i'm posting this is to let anyone interested in building one that i am here and will gladly help you figure it out..It cost me roughly $350 to build. a little less actually

Nice, do you mind sharing some specs on it? Fan CFM, type of hepa, prefilter, etc. Seems cheap though, did you find the fan used or something?

i found the fan, a dayton 1tdt7 542/409 cfm 2 speed, on ebay for $122 shipped. It was 75 dollars and like 45 for shipping. The hepa is from fungi perfecti, $168 shipped. and the prefilter is just a cheap furnace filter cut into a small square and duct taped on...I used 3/4 inch oak plywood and 1"x2" to make the part that filter sits against to create the plenum..thing works like a charm

Thanks for sharing! I just finished building myself a dehydrator out of some leftover wood I had around and I'll be building a flow hood next. I'll have it constructed this week but I won't have the hepa filter until later.
Question for you. In your box construction do you have the 3/4 just screwed to itself or is glued and screwed, and is there any bracing in the corners inside the box?

no bracing necessary. just screwed to itself and caulked to be airtight...search: stonesun flowhood build and thatll give you a plan and a visual of it..the most important part is the surface the filter sits up against.

Does the blower require any wiring or just plug it in?

mind sharing how you built your dehydrator? I was thinking of building one myself. Is it just screen racks with a fan or does it include some way of gently heating the air?

That would be awesome! I'm having trouble finding any links with photos on wiring up a blower.

I can do write up on it when I get some batteries for my camera but it's basically, a box built to fit cookie cooling racks with a light bulb in the bottom and a fan on top.

so mine is a two speed, so my switch is a three way, the cord is just a simple two pronged extension cord with the female end cut off. The black and red wires each go to their own terminal on the switch, the white wire is called the common wire and it is wired straight to the extension cord to the wire that runs to fatter side of the plug, and then the other wire on the extension cord(the one that runs to the skinnier straight side of the plug is wired straight to the center terminal..if your fan is just 1 speed let me know and ill help you

oh cool, I spent literally 30 seconds searching for info on flow hoods and landed here.
Any help you could give me would be great. I'm looking to order what I need in the next couple of days. I'm going to need to order a filter and a blower, anything else? I'd like to have the largest filter I can reasonably get(tall) to make working with bags no problem.
