Help to Identify This Vine
    #23496262 - 07/31/16 04:47 PM (7 years, 5 months ago)

This plant appeared in the wild last year. It has expanded a bit more this year.  It is a climbing plant with heart shaed leaves, tiny yellow blossoms and green seedpods about half the size of a grape.

I wonder if anyone can identify it for me.

What do the berries taste like? Cucumber?

If so it might be Melothria scabra

If you are in the USA I would say that's probably Melothria pendula

I like to eat these on the trailside or in a salad. Like DualWieldRake said, they taste like little cucumbers but definitely only eat the immature ones. Once they ripen and turn dark green to black you should not eat them. They have been called "the mother of all laxatives"

Thank you for the posting. I haven't tried the berries. I just assumed that they were poisonous but it does look like the 'mouse melon"

I am going to try and collect some seeds this year. I first saw them last year. They must must have been seeded by birds.
