Terrarium questions for one cake.

I was going to do a large jar as a terrarium. Do I need perlite? I have plenty of verm. If I need perlite to keep it moist, what's the mix is it 2:1? Is there a procedure for getting it in contam free?
I was going to spray the jar down with 90% alcohol, set in whatever mix needs to be in the bottom and but the cake in, air it out daily and mist water on the lid as needed. Sound good?

You can use perlite. You never mix it with verm. You just use 100% perlite in the bottom of a SGFC.
You don't need to get it contamination free.
70% alcohol works way better than 90%
Don't water the lid. The plastic doesn't grow. You mist the cake

Thanks! I decided to go ahead and combine my cakes into the choir mix and into the monotub though. I have no idea what is going to happen!!!!
I've followed a lot of steps to get to this point. Hopefully it will come out okay. I've been using a brown rice flour/verm mix in my jars and found the cakes to be very difficult to break up. Is rye seed better as far as breaking up for the tubs??
Thanks for your help btw

Some people use a cheese grater on cakes.

here are some delinquent cakes that I got sick of waiting on. I was so fucking mad at these cakes. SOOOOOOOOOOOO mad. PTSD mad. A WHOLE WORLD OF PAIN MAD. I used jars with beveled edges on the inside so I had to break them up with a spoon to get them out and they weren't completely colonized. IT'S BEEN TWO MONTHS FUUUUUUUCK. So I broke down and bought some perlite, made a chamber out of some glass and a tub I found by a dumpster, and here are some pics. Suggestions are welcome!

Don't bump unless it has been at least 24 hours since last post.
Your FC is nonsense. Perlite has no place in a monotub. A monotub cannot function properly without a large mass of substrate. 2 cakes won't cut it and perlite needs air to flow THROUGH it to work.
Build an SGFC.

"What do I do with the perlite? Basically, you're going to cover the bottom of your grow chamber with a layer of wet perlite. The grow chamber should be fairly well sealed and shouldn't have any holes in it. Then, you put your fully colonized cakes in on top of the layer of perlite. The perlite should maintain just about the right level of humidity without any help. Other than daily airing of the grow chamber to reduce CO2 levels, there's very little maintenance with this method."

cakes are turning blue! I've seen that this happens a lot on here, so I'm not too worried. I beat them up getting them out of jars. It's only been a week.
