Is my myc rebounding well? Any signs of contams that I'm missing?
    #23489345 - 07/29/16 01:40 PM (7 years, 5 months ago)

My first grow looks to be rebounding, showing some promising primordia.

(Previously: How can I improve my mini monotub? Trouble w/ FAE )

After breaking it up and dunking, I let it be for a few days and it looks like it's starting to come back. As this is still my first grow, I'm not 100% sure if this is healthy looking mycelium at this stage. Can anyone tell me if there are signs of contamination? I'll also be happy to hear advice about what my mycelium needs that I haven't been providing it.

From these pics I do not see a contam

I don't like having all that exposed grain but I suppose it looks alright.  A little haphazardly mixed together, kinda lumpy, though.

Definitely. I'm really not sure why, but for some reason I was afraid to break it up too finely.  It's something I could be ballsier about in the future, for sure.

Prior to transferring the spawn into the sub, my grain had seemingly stalled. It grew to cover about 40% of the bag and then failed to progress beyond that, so I'm guessing that's why I still have so much exposed grain that seemingly never colonized. In the future, if a bag stalls out, should I avoid transferring it into the substrate? Is there a chance it will continue to colonize after a period of time?

If a bag stalls out then get rid of it, because it's probably bacteria.

Gotcha. That's good to know for next time. I have a couple of pre-sterilized grain bags left, and then I'm going to move on to bulk spawning once I track down a PC I can afford that will also fit a reasonable number of jars. I think I'll feel a lot less bad about tossing partially colonized spawn when I have several jars going at once.
