too much rye?
    #23486798 - 07/28/16 06:11 PM (7 years, 6 months ago)

I have a five gallon bucket that I put 18 cups of rye into, rinsed about 10 times and seems clear so I filled water to soak and added gypsum planning on boiling all the rye tomorrow in 6 cup increments and then pressure cooking them and setting them in a bin (without lid) in a closet to cool. I should probably add that I have 6 more cups soaking probably a half hour to 45 minutes apart from the bucket. is the 18 cups soaking in a bucket with about 6-10 inches of water too much? originally I didn't worry about it until I realized it was all the rye I had and It's hella hard to find over here unless its online. Thanks. love. peace.

like when the rye germinates will it get trapped and not float to the top? most of the bacterial spores are destroyed by the pressure cooker so I was just trying to make 100%sure it will make it through

:notsureif: trapped and not float to the top?

If you're just soaking the grains, you don't really want them floating anyways. Cover them with at least 2" water, just follow the tek to the T.

I think he's worried the endospores won't float.

oh. So, that's really a non-issue.

I do fine just throwing the grains into a hot pot of water, layering some gypsum on top, and turning off the heat, throwing a top on the pot. Leave that for a while, sieve and jar. Then PC.

Look up spitball jedi's rye berry tek or Fooman's WBS prep

I have another question though, would you rather ride a dragon? or would you rather be a dragon. both have their benefits.... I got lost in the internet 20 minutes ago looking up stumping questions.
