San Pedro Help/advice needed.
    #23486221 - 07/28/16 03:37 PM (7 years, 7 months ago)

I will attach some picture of one of my san pedro cacti and as you can see there are this spots appearing towards the bottom of the plant; not sure if there is anything I can do about it or should I even worry or not... thank you.

Weeping black rot? If it's not spreading don't stress, just look ugly. Somebody else should be able to confirm whether or not that's what it is.

Aren't those the webs of spidermites in the second pic's upper half?
A few weeks ago I had spidermites on a brugmansia, producing exactly these kind of "webs" all over the plant.
Those mites attacked my cacti too, they like the smell of plants' fresh growth and invade cactus tops and pups.
Some of my cacti showed the same injuries as yours, all these little green knobs for example. So I think there are spidermites on your cacti!

//edit: Check out the webs, if you can see little small white dots / creatures moving around, then you have mites.

Good eye Pandemoon. My black rot actually showed up during a spider mite attack, interesting.

can I get rid of them? is the cacti in danger or it will heal itself and get over it? I see the webs, I don't see any spider mites but that doesn't mean they are not there... anything I can safely use against them and not hurt my cactus?

It will heal itself. When i first got bridgesii they got that. I just let it be. Evsntually it looked like the plant just built a defense to it.

Do you have a picture of the whole plant?

Very lovely plant Amonra. :awethumb:

Looks like its only on one limb. Me? I wouldnt be to worried about it. The rest look good. If you are that worried about it and dont plan on consuming it why not use something systemic. May clear it up. But like i said before. It looks pretty good to me.

yes the rest of the plant looks healthy... it might need some N, haven't fertilize in a while... it's just on one limb toward the bottom. and it did spread a little upwards... I will have to see if it spreads more... I would hate to lose it. I had this bad boy for a few years and it is so far my mother plant. I have about 5 of them now this one is by far the biggest one. thank you.

Yes, beautiful, while unnecessary, I would take 1 cutting and start another plant, since you have so many ready and available arms there.

If you do see any signs of mites I would recommend you start occasionally doing preventative neem oil sprays or something similiar.

That can really help keep them from invading and or turning into an epidemic/ infestation if you start early enough.

I believe mescaline to be a defense mechanism. I think it will heal itself and proliferate after that.
