I.D on a polypore/ Bolete?
    #23485977 - 07/28/16 02:25 PM (7 years, 6 months ago)

Was working and had a little down time.  Im located in Snellville at the moment.  Near a lake. Had pine trees, sweetgums, poplars.  Was growing in a mix of dead wood and dirt, couldnt get a habitat picture. But can tomorrow.

Maybe gyroporus castaneus?
What is the inside of the stem like?

My biggest clue on this one is the depression between the pores and the top of the stem.

The stem on gyroporus does have a unique texture, it sort of comes apart in shreds.
It will become hollow as it matures. If you cut the stem in half lengthwise there may be some empty spaces starting to form (assuming this specimen is old enough).

Ohh okay.  There were a couple spots that looked like it was trying to hollow out.  Kinda brownish, i assume they rot from the inside out?
