Version 1: Garmarna
Version 2: In Extremo
Which do you prefer, and why?

Hands down, the first one is great!
The ladies voice makes it seem like I should be expecting some dwarfs to show up, followed by a wizards knock on my door and he will take us on a great adventure.
But yeah, first one is great.

The first one is waaaaaay better.
It sounds like the way it could have actually been sung back in the day. Very, very cool.
How old is this song? It mentions a couple of specific things from mythology and culture that suggests it's very old, but I don't want to assume.
Very beautiful, do you know of anything else like this from Scandinavia? Any other similarish folk songs?
Edit; Just looked it up on wikipedia, this is the real deal. Pre-christianization origin. Easily before 1000AD. Man, that is very cool, I had no idea about this existing. I mean the fact that it features a troll as the speaker AND she wants to have a love affair with a knight, this is a very cool thing as mythology goes. I'm not that familiar specifically with Swedish mythology, but very familiar with Norse mythology in general (at least that little bit that we have). Man, this is just... As a fan of Norse mythology this is the kind of thing you always dream about being able to hear. The real songs as they were actually meant to be sung. Unbelievably cool. I had no idea this story existed.
