My spawn was inoculated with agar wedges.....so it may have been a hidden contam on my plate...so I'll try to narrow down my vectors.....

I believe I may have dried my wbs too long after the simmer.....I have 5 qts colonizing now and I'm pretty sure I lost 1 to a white contam....does this mean all my spawn is fucked?

Why do you think that? Are there water pools in your jars?

Too dry is better than too wet. You can't dry the hydrated starch gelatin inside the grain out.

There is hardly any growth in that 1 jar....and it seems to be drier than the other jars....I didn't have any moisture collecting in my jars....not even after pc'ing them....

Think I may have figured my problem out......I don't think I was simmering my wbs long enough, got a new batch goin and we'll see if shit goes any differently? I noticed this batch the yellow millet was easily split with my fingernails.....the last few goes have been a little difficult to split with my nails

How long have you been PCing your WBS jars? I saw you said you PCed your coir/verm for an hour, but what about your spawn?

Don't PC your Coir/Verm. You should properly pasteurize your substrate. Before I started properly pasteurizing, I got green every time by the 3rd flush.
Frank's tek: http://www.shroomery.org/forums/showflat.php/Number/17246844
Of course, this will only help if your spawn is healthy and not hiding any unseen contaminants.
Nothing wrong with WBS, though it is sometimes tough to get the appropriate moisture content after simmering. The only thing that I ever knew to work for this was to spread the seed to dry on some newspaper after the simmer. Once the exterior is dry, ready to PC and never too moist.
Hope this helps!

Coir/verm can be sterilized and many say it performs best sterilized

Correct me if I am wrong, but I recall having seen posts where TCs like Frank and RR recommend pasteurizing substrate over sterilizing because it keeps the right amount of beneficial bacteria and discourages contaminants from taking hold as easily. That being said, I understand that some prefer not to pasteurize or sterilize at all and have achieved some degree of success.

FrankHorrigan said: If the temp goes over 170F for more than ten or fifteen minutes, you will start to partially sterilize your substrate. It'd be best to toss it and try again. Since we spawn to bulk in open air, a partially sterilized substrate is often as shitty as an unpasteurized substrate.
Bear in mind though, if you are pasteurizing just coir and verm, you can probably get away with it. Coir is very contam resistant.
I was under the impression that pasteurization of the substrate gives the myc ample time to achieve colonization without making the substrate as vulnerable to hosting a contaminant. Wouldn't sterilized substrate be more likely to contaminate during a spawn run because it has been broken down by a higher degree of heat?

The only reason I pc'd my coir is because it sat for over a month....

Thanks for the link! I'm very relieved to read that coir can be used sterilized as well as pasteurized. Much easier to set the PC to sterilize than to try and keep temps within pasteurization range for an hour or so.
Thanks, Trusted Cultivator!
Gotta be your spawn that is the problem, OP... Good vibes.
