The fact that a tactic like that is not only sensible but works well, points to obvious issues in our culture of flash-trends and sheep behavior.
Pouring ice on yourself is exciting and groups of people have fun doing it together. People get told to donate to shit all the time, it gets old. The ice bucket challenge was a novel and exciting idea that brought attention to an often disregarded and rare disorder, and all it took was a little bit of donation from everybody to make a big difference. If it wasn't for the ice bucket challenge I can guarantee ALS funding wouldn't have raised anywhere near as much money as they did in 2014. It's not about "sheep behavior".
Sheep behavior is doing opiates and benzos everyday because people on the internet made it seem cool.

nothing about this post makes sense
it was during a massive drought and most places have issues with clean water, he specifically was referring to Africa but the problem is prevalent world wide.

Then, letting out my conspiracy side, this was mostly advertised my celebrities and people with shitloads of money like Bill Gates who's in support of the Monsanto company and also Bayer. So it's not surprising that it was funded for something to do with medications.
And honestly, fuck those 3 genes disease is a part of life and we seem to be doing pretty good for the most part. Instead of discovering new genes maybe we could just take crazy shit out of foods and quit drugging up so many people on pills in the first place that fuck up their natural immune system. Now that's something I'd donate to and love to see Bill Gates advertise.
Some people are meant to die, deal with it.
Or do a pansy ass ice bucket challenge in front of the rest of the world when we're the main cause of water pollution and spend a fuckton of money on finding 3 new genes. We just made the breakthrough of the damn millennium thanks to the ice bucket challenge eh?
What a joke.

And in the mean time I'll be trying to heal it naturally and wouldn't be using those 3 genes anyways. And you're right, if I die, I'm meant to. I'll deal with it.

One day you're going to be at a music festival in a sweltering 100 degree heat with a head full of peyote, trying to sell overpriced tie-dye's and dying of dehydration.
I'm going to stand in front of you and dump a cooler full of ice cold water on my head.

Actually I think there's many natural cures for pretty much all illness and disease and the fact that people think they need 3 genes to be discovered in order to create more medications is more or less propaganda bs. So I guess you'd more or less want to call me a conspiracy theorist. Nice assumption though
you are fucking clueless, and just proved my point. You obviously know nothing about science, anatomy & physiology, pathophysiology, etc. the amount of stupidity on this website astounds me sometimes. Granted, it attracts kids...but still.

why do you think a challenge that encourages people to donate money to helping research the cause & cures of a disease is stupid?
Its like Relay for Life, a relay walk/run race to raise money for Heart diesase research and treatment.
Walking around a track is just for publicity just like the ice bucket challenge is. Its all to get people to contribute by some mass activity.

Its the Power of People.
People pouring ice buckets out over themselves has raised $115,000,000 completely eclipsing government funding.
It gets results.
