The journey so far!

So for the past 2 months I've had a lot of fun diving into this hobby. Started with a single spore syringe and inoculated some brf as well as some agar. While those were colonizing I started to try narrowing down the genetics. Ended up reusing the syringe for some LI that went into more brf and then went agar to wbs. While those were colonizing I made a shitty outdoor bed with my first brf jars after their second flush and a pint of roughly 50/50 myc and mold, haha. Now I'm fruiting the second batch of brf and waiting for some of the outdoor mushies to make it past an inch tall without being eaten by the god damn squirrels.
Out of the 9 brf jars, 28 agar jars, and a quart and 5 pints of wbs, I managed to only have 1 agar and 1 wbs jar contaminate using a sab. I've only used a sgfc so far, but am looking forward to trying my hand at monotubs in a week or two when I take my grains out of the fridge after I deal with real life for a bit. But I just wanted to say thank you to you all for the wealth of knowledge here. The view is beautiful up here on the shoulders of giants!

May I ask how you layered your outside bed? And why do you say the first outdoor bed was shitty?
Just asking because I'm working on my first outdoor grow at the moment myself and setting up my bed tomorrow since my hay is soaking for today.

I guess I can't call it "shitty" seeing as how it over came the mold and is now fruiting, but I half-assed it pretty hard, lol. I pretty much just dug a hole, filled it in with jiffy mix (the ground here is nothing but clay,) mixed in the myc, and then topped it off with more jiffy, haha. It was more of a "fuck it" grow with substrate I didn't have much hope for, haha

That definitely makes me feel better about mine.
That's awesome that it's fruiting man! Care to take any pics for shits and giggles?

There wouldn't be much to show! It's been fruiting in a pretty random and staggerd way. And after the squirrels laid siege to my farmland, all that remains are but a few pins that I'm hoping will survive, lol

man gotta hate that... thats a reason i dont even bother burying my spent sub anymore.. the few fruits that do come of it just end up getting eaten by bugs and (i assume) other critters.. plus i have clay dirt here, too.

What's wrong with clay dirt? Aren't you digging it all up to throw in hay/manure anyways?

for me, nah.. i was just tossing my spent cakes in a hole crumbled with some verm and them a fine layer of the crumbled clay-dirt on top haha.. wasnt really planning on it doing much since it was spent. but, each time i would bury some, sure enough it would put out a few mushies, but almost all of them get eaten. so now i havent really bothered doing ti the last couple times i had spent stuff. jsut tossed it.
ill have a lot of spent cakes here in about a month, though. planning to bury those, since it's so many. might crumble them with some cir or something, idk.

Oh haha
My goal is to hopefully have enough to share with the bugs and squirrels. Hopefully they don't get greedy and we can all enjoy the yield.

Does leaving the mushrooms long enough to drop spores help the patch fruit/colonize more?

nah, not the patch i doubt.. but i just had hopes that maybe the spores released would find their way to germinate somewhere, so there would be more wild cubes around.. not really for me or anything necessarily, but just in general.
i mean, i guess it is possible that the spores could land and germinate in or near the patch, but that isnt what i was aiming for.

Can't go wrong with good intentions.
