Thanks so much theres so many helpful folks here, and ao many good threads on the different teks and ways, ive enjoyed reading them and deciding which i feel may work for me.
I just said to someone in a pm, as i read up and learn it, i realise me doing pf tek - ive wasted so many spores!! They go nowhere really when you consider how far a spore can go this way ^_^

after 1 grow you have so many spores you dont know what to do with them! Growing mushrooms is never a waste of spores in my opinion

you can simply PC q-tips too, dont have to buy swabs. and I prefer loops over swabs if you're going print - agar.

Yes $5 at a pharmacy store, a roll of aluminum foil and qtips.
I filled a gallon bag overflowing full of diy swabs without going through half the qtips.
I would guess at least 200, and i have more than half the supplies from the $5 pharmacy visit. Itll just take a few hours.
Eatyualive has a great thread called 'sterile swabs now' if you need a visual

Cool thank you
When it comes to pc the agar mix, if i go with petri and pour, if i cant find a pyrex bottle that fits, is it doable to use a jam jar, sealed, put agar mix inside, put in pc then pour from the jar inside a sab? Or is a proper pyrex bottle preferable?

A jar is fine, the bigger mouth makes it a little harder to pour and I guess more area for contaminants to get in but I've probably done the last 200 plates with a jar and not had a single contam from the pour itself as far as I can tell. I used to use brandy bottle but not sure what i did with it which is why Ive been using a jar, a 750 or 1L bottle if it will fit in your PC is ideal, doesn't need to be pyrex, normal glass bottles will hold up fine for agar use.

yeah you need a 1/4" hole or so stuffed with poly, covered with a SFD or similar. transcendinglife has a writeup on different kinds of lids in his How I do everything list.

For the longest time I had a 6L PC and I had to remove the stand to fit jars in. They rattle a bit but other than that it worked fine.
