Mushrooms from same cake look different.

This is my first attempt at growing. Both of these mushrooms came from the same cake, although the browner looking one was harvested about two days before the other. I'm assuming this isn't normal.

Totally normal. Those mushrooms are comprised of totally different genetics.

One of them is also unhappy about the dry conditions.

Thanks for the advice! I'll start misting more frequently and with more water.

You could do better than that by raising the humidity in your fruiting chamber. What are you using?

Nothing you can do to raise humidity in a SGFC. If it's built 100% correctly it will work. If you measure the humidity its gets as low as 50% regularly which is a-ok
I'm guessing OP isn't using a proper SGFC tho

I am using a SGFC, and I built it with the matrix of 1/4 inch holes spaced 2 inches apart. It could be the ambient humidity is too low I guess. The bulk of the mushrooms looked fine, there were just two that looked like they didn't get enough humidity. I'm hoping it's just a fluke as there are more healthy mushrooms growing, I guess I'll know for sure in a week or so.

Just realized that the overhead fan in the room could be messing with the air movement through the SGFC as well

Fans will disrupt the function of a SGFC and will dry it out. No fans.

There are things you can do to lower to humidity in a SGFC: letting the perlite get too dry, putting it in the wrong spot, forgetting to elevate it, fans. Undoing those things will raise the humidity in your SGFC.
