Trying a new terrarium tek and it's not working out as expected..help!

So I mostly have experience with the standard pf tek and shotgun FC, and have had contam issues in the past. A fellow grower showed me a different terrarium he swears by that requires no perlite, no misting, and no fanning. Obviously I had to try it. Here is his set up.

These 3 pics are from day one. Here is a pic from his day six

I was shocked at how well this worked. No more perlite, fanning, or misting. Yay!
Now..... Here is my day one.

As you can see, I could not find the materials in the exact same measurements, so my cakes are elevated above the water by about 3-4 times in comparison. This guy assured me this would not be a problem at all. However...

Here is my day six. This is brown since it is a different strain. The white albino strain barely has tiny pins. Clearly I am doing something wrong.
I don't know if I should simply add more water so the cakes are closer to it (moving them lower is not an option) or try spraying and fanning on top of it. BUT when I looked closer at the cakes, they have some water droplets under them.... So maybe it's too humid? Not too sure what to do next...help !

Looks atrocious. I don't doubt they ain't wanting to pin choking in that.
Sure it's no misting and no fanning. Also looks like no results.

i'd simply stick with the sgfc lol..if you can't find time to mist a couple times a day maybe try another hobby lol..no misting and no fanning often leads to shitty results

FYI the SGFC had nothing whatsoever to do with your contaminations. Fruiting is not a sterile process, as soon as your cakes are birthed they encounter millions of contaminations in open air. Healthy colonized cakes are contamination resistant, you could probably dunk a healthy cake in the toilet and still pull off a couple flushes. If you are getting contams don't blame a proven design chamber blame your inoculant / sterilization/ inoculation methods. If anything the chamber pictured would be more favorable for contaminations being a closed up wet box with 0 fresh air.
That design sucks, and his fruits are clearly suffering.

Yeah I'm not going off site. I'll trust these guys here. This is why I get pissed the moment someone says "oh I had shit contaminate, must be my room so let me bleach bomb it, stir up the rooms spore load in the process and fruit in a "sterile" chamber!" Making the environment "sterile" won't change anything. This is a matter of clean colonization.

The tremendous amount of fresh air a SGFC gets from all the holes is the number one thing keeping contamination away from your grow.
A SGFC is the second most automated fruiting chamber the monotub is no1 automatic but that's for bulk.

With cakes. Once you start blocking the perlite it's not as effective though..

I can see that. I wonder if it's feasible to find a way to rest your cakes about 1/2" or so above the perlite yet, on something that won't rust out, allowing more airflow across the top of the perlite. You would probably still want foil under the cakes to suppress bottom pinning I think, but it would be minimal.

I mean with cakes vs trays. Lots of cakes work great in a SGFC. Once trays block enough air flow they become better suited for a mono though.

¡Exactamente! Did you borrow that from a fridge? I have trays sitting on the perlite and it's a fight, as pointed out by Inocuole.

Honestly I think raising the cakes is pretty useless you're still covering the footprint of the perlite. Just don't over or under load a SGFC...
