    #23479848 - 07/26/16 07:41 PM (7 years, 6 months ago)

Hi everyone just wanted to share this glovebox I made out of a toy chest with hard and soft clear plastic, duct/duck tape and wind breaker sleeves
The soft plastic is from those sheet/quilt cases (king size)

You want a "still air box" not a glove box. I made mine for about $10 and didn't ruin my children's furniture
But nice effort.

My kids have grown out of using it and was going to be sold at a garage sale BUT used it towards my benefit instead

Well, then good job.
Just remember, a good SAB has large holes. Mine are around 6" in diameter and barely big enough. You want little air movement, and large holes aid in that. What's nice is the vertical space you have, which is nice for G2G transfers.

Thanks I had to upgrade to a pink and blue tote for their toys it was a crazy mess, the center piece is completed detached from the sides allowing ventilation in form of slits the center piece is hinged up top.

You... do not want ventilation.

I would really just throw that away and use a tote with holes in it for your arms.  A toy chest with gloves attached is the most ridiculous thing, I can only imagine the drafts that pulls in there.

The slits sides overlap each other, the tote is 1 complete mold, the gloves are not attached, the gloves are put on and then enters through the sleeve, wow you guys are really hard to impress, I feel confident in its efficacy, be that as it may, time will tell.

Yep. But even if it does seem to be relatively draft free, looks like a pain in the ass to work in. Just listen to others here and buy a tote.

One thing you are about to figure out at your own expense is that a still air box is what you need. We are not hard to impress, it is just really not the best route for new cultivators to insist their method is better than the advice an experienced cultivator is offering, with seconds.

It's not hard to build a proper SAB....

But do go ahead and find out for your own benefit.

This is how I made mine.

No cutting no drilling. Plastic box (like the one used for SGFC), remove the lid and use cling film to cover the top. Use tape on the cling film to contain the holes. Slit the holes for hand openings.

So... How do you manage getting big stuff like jars in and out of this thing?

Im sure SAB are effective as im seeing these cookie cutter designs, if my design doesnt work as planned then ill spend the money but I wont unnecessarly, btw I cant fathom my design allowing more contams, I only have to open a window vs sanitizing the SAB and locking it back over the lid, my design also does not create positive pressure due to the semi-permiable material of the sleeves and the slits in between the center window

It's because of the bellows effect.
Think of pistons pushing through a narrow space, and the air displacement that takes place.
A narrower space for movement creates more airflow inside your box. Or, if plumbing is your thing, think of different sized pipes moving the same volume of water; a large pipe will have the water trickling through, whereas a narrow pipe could have the same volume of water spewing out at a high rate of speed.

If you have gloves attached, microscopic tears will start to form, where the air will get displaced through. This is why we recommend the cookie cutter design you see. It works as well and as reliably as a flow hood.

No the sleeves are pulled out to get my hands through, I would agree with you if my sleeves were plastic and air tight but that not the case there is no compression being formed

This is a picture of my 110 qt clear still air box:

Notice it's wet/condensated inside. That's what it's supposed to look like the whole time you're working with it.

I took the cut outs of the holes and taped them to make little doors. This is to keep the air still if I'm waiting for things to cool, or if I want a smoke break.

My SAB holes are 6 inches. Honestly this is the MINIMUM diameter. I took incense and lit it in my box (kudos to kizzle for the idea) and found the arm holes moved the most air (smoke) when moving my arms around, and in and out. By increasing the size of the arm holes, and working in a fairly still room with the vents turned off .. I've been finding that moving your arms in and out will cause no air movement. And thus very rare contams

Also you flame outside the box, keeping the air inside the box still.

If you want to test how much air you stir, instead of guessing. This is how the whole big arm holes, and clunky glove box sleeves moving too much air thing was figured out. Incense ftw.

Thank you, Dooley noted, just got done using mine but I will use that test soon to see where calibration is needed and if it's too much fuss ill just rip the tape and sell the toy tote
