Honey LC

So this is my first time making a liquid culture with honey. Does the honey discolor the mycelium? I have these strange brown formations going and I was pretty solid on sterilization. Could this have to do with putting too much honey? Or is it just a contam? Orrr is this just brownish looking mycelium?

did you inoculate with spores, by any chance?

It's probably sediment which honey is notorious for. I dislike simple sugar LC to being with but honey is probably my least favorite. Looks really cloudy tho, if you inoculated it already then it might be a sign of bacteria blooming.

No, this was made from cloning tissue. It's also about 10 days old.

I mean, there's tonnes of sediment from the honey. But it still looks kinda cloudy otherwise... So you took a piece of mushroom and threw it in your LC? Did I get that right?

That is 10 days from live tissue? Then it's fucked. Should have been ready to use a week ago. How did you obtain the clean tissue? If you say anything but clean agar wedge then that's the problem.

Also sediment clears as the mycelium colonizes. If it gets more cloudy then it started as it's toast.

Used a syringe to pierce a cross-section from the stem of a freshly picked fruit. Should I try again with multi spore or attempt agar? What would the colonization timeframe be with multi spore?
I have no more tissue to use. No good ones anyway. I guess agar would make sense.

Agar is the only way. Many people may disagree with me. However there are 1000's of fails posted from people who thought agar was optional. Not too many fails from people who bothered to learn agar to begin with.

you should have grown out on agar first, and put a clean wedge in your LC. That's how we do.

my honey water liquid culture doesn't appear perfectly white like some of the examples given, but more so like yours. the water appeared to have sediment and probably took at least two whole weeks to begin forming fluff balls. and took maybe up to four for the water to appear completely clear save the off white, yellowish fluff balls. only when held to the sun do mine appear "white". only advice I say is wait. eventually if the water becomes see through, you're probably looking at success. tbh, I was fairly arrogant about my sterilization procedure. But of the 4 honey lc jars I made, all 4 are perfect

Think that the blender bottle shakers really allow some depth of field to allow you to see the fluff with a bit more definition
