Interesting. A much different "scene" than the one written about by Daniel Pinchbeck in Breaking Open the Head.

I really don't want to watch the video... Can someone give me a synopsis? If not, no worries - carry on.

It details the initiation of two westerners, a european guy and someone from where I presume would be the UK but not really sure, into bwiti, a Gabonese tradition focussing around the total experience of the iboga plant for psychedelic exploration.
Pretty cool stuff, otherworldly music sung and played on a stringed, harp-esque instrument the whole time, specific songs, cleansing rituals, different kinds of baths, it's a 5 day journey before the initiate even takes the iboga, and on the fifth night when they do drink it it's probably at the upper limits of intensity for psychedelics, which implies a great deal in a transformative way. I think it also entrusts the initiate as a teacher and shaman with the iboga plant, giving them the ability to hold ceremonies for others.
I know at least the guy from the UK continues to work with Iboga, he holds ceremonies for people with dire cases of addiction and other personal issues, and more often than not his ceremony and the iboga plant is completely effective at treating the core issues. Heroin addicts, for instance, will start to feel better from their withdrawals for long enough to kick their addiction.

supposedly iboga takes one through all the pain and misteaks and misdeeds of one's life - so very definitely not a recreational type deal
is a very long intense trip, can also have cardiac implications
very serious deal

that ritual is quite extensive. it looks like it only worked for one of them. the other, as he illustrated, was distracted. those tunes though, hallelujah.

a very interesting tradition. Iboga will and has been playing a large part in the healing of humans conscious afflictions. Iboga is an African Zen master.
