Sorry about the shitty video quality. It's my my first video and I was rushing through it but I give all credit to grower for his videos and giving me the Co defence to make my own.

I started off the same, with pails thinking no waste. In the long run if you ever get into even a small commercial grow time is such a killer. Cleaning 20 buckets takes like an hour, at least, then you still got to fill em. And buckets arent really the best to grow out of. I ran into core temp issues and irregular flushes.

you run bags?
I'm using 5 gal buckets currently for the oysters, but rebuilding my GH and plan to run bags for other species.

good to hear some insight from someone with more experience. i figured there must be some issues with permanent containers that contribute to everyone using bag. I'll have to try them both out

Although they are the most popular, not everyone uses bags. There are small to medium sized farms utilizing re-usable containers successfully. They probably have more time and space to accommodate for the extra steps needed, and thus the system works well enough for them.
Keep in mind that a 5 gallon bucket is equivalent to poly tubing with a 17.27" lay flat diameter and is better insulated. Considering climate + thermogenesis is important when choosing a fruiting container.

Yes, but you also run into high core temps more often with buckets. I was seeing core temps as high as 115F in pails.

I agree.
This is a problem I'm running into but I have contributing this to hight placement on the buckets.
Fuck....

Yea i would stack 2 1x2s between each set of buckets so they cool rather than stack heat down the colum.

Maybe try to make some central aeration tube thingy in the middle of the substrate. Maybe rolled mesh tube that has been sanitized-sterilized.
