First grow- Amazonian- log with pictures

They started pinning two or three days ago. It's been slower to colonize because of a lower temperature. It's been about 75F maybe a bit warmer. This isn't bad considering its my first attempt at cultivation. I've read a lot on this forum and decided to chance 1) using popcorn tek because it's cheap and I'm lazy and 2) using 50/50 coir and verm and using it as a casing layer and pretty much just dumping the popcorn in between. 3) the spores are 5 years old and were syringes I've kept in the refrigerator. The ones still in jars are Cambodian and seem to be coming along nicely, though they took longer to colonize. One has a contaminated area, I am Assuming. 5 out of 12 jars did not colonize at all. This I believe is due to my tek, I had no idea how much spore syringe to inoculate into the jars, I used about 1cc in the small jars. Also the age of the spores probably contributed to many jars not colonizing.

I will give you a few hints. First popcorn is expensive. Thats one of the reasons I hate it. 2 if you shake your grain jars they colonize way faster. Wait until you have 30% colonization and then shake em up and they finish in a few days.
But you have fruits and that's good. Looks like they might need some more air and better light. You have some pseudomonias on the caps and they are pretty lanky indicating they are wanting a lot more fresh air. The caps are a bit small so better air and more light will help that too.
Also be careful when reading 11 year old teks about biopsy cloning to LC. Those are disasters waiting to happen. Trust me
Stick around and we can show you lots. But for now, welcome to the shroomery

If you want to use corn, try whole corn sold in horse feed stores. It's the cheapest grain over here and it's obviously much cheaper than popcorn. I've heard that other grains are better in terms of nutrition content though, so you might as well try to find some other grain while you're in a store like that. They often have oats or rye. Pet stores can also get you sacks of WBS or millet for pretty cheap.
Congratulations on your first grow, not bad at all for a first try.

Thanks for the advice! They've gotten more fresh air and more light and seem to be doing better today. I was out of town when they started growing and at that time they had no light, hence the lanky bodies.
I did shake the jars at 30% colonization and it seemed to help.
I'd like to try rye or another accessible grain next grow. I think I have one 5 year old syringe left. Lol

I made a lot of mistakes and I'm pretty much just dabbling...they have fuzzy feet and poor FAE among other problems, but I grew something!
Edit- first fruits were picked. 188 grams.

Lookin good! The fuzzy feet may have been cause by lack of FAE, though some mushies just have a tendency to fuzz up a little.
