What's the best way to take a break and get away from society for a while..?
    #23476269 - 07/25/16 05:54 PM (7 years, 6 months ago)

I honestly just want some away time from everyone and everything. Leave work. Go somewhere. I'd have to take my meds with me but I stay on my laptop quite a bit and just seeing articles on here and the things happening in the world makes my depression so much worse.. any suggestions?

go camping with friends. make a long weekend of it. go somewhere without signal. or even better, make a deal that everyone locks their phones in the car and they are only to be accessed in an emergency

12 pack of beer and just listening to toons, not interacting with the world.  There are ways to lesson the pain and get a reboot.  If you don't drink like I do maybe nothing or some herb.  Whatever let's your mind cool down and get out of emotional reaction habits.

Go portaging for a week somewhere without cell service. It will do you some good and its surprisingly inexpensive.

Camping is the best. Relaxing in nature helps the mind unwind.

Running, for me is a great but short escape.

Long, or even lengthy escapes from society certainly exist but you will either sacrifice money or comfort in most cases. Camping is the most reasonable.

Stop looking at your laptop. Read a book.

+1 for camping.
you on the east coast, spend a week on the Appalachian trail.
west coast, jump on the pacific crest trail.
if there's a river near you, get a cheapo canoe or kayak and have someone drop you off way upriver and float back home.
leave your phone and lappy. take a book and a journal.
i feel ya homey, being a modern human is rough. news is all shit.
hell, maybe i'll come join you

What area do you live in?

Camping is awesome. Find a real special spot and definitely make a long weekend of it. Enough to feel like you've been gone for a while. Usually three days will do the trick. Find a buddy or two, get a nice big ol bag of boomers, and enjoy the wonders of nature. Unless that isn't your cup of tea, of course. Then don't.

But if you don't like camping, get a hotel and go somewhere for a few days. Be a tourist and leave your phone in the hotel room for a day.

Buy a gun and see if you don't feel better. If not take some acid. If not then, go to church!

--------------------

Ephesians 6:12
For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places.
Psalm 12:6
The words of the Lord are pure words: as silver tried in a furnace of earth, purified seven times.
Hebrews 11:3
Through faith we understand that the worlds were framed by the word of God, so that things which are seen were not made of things which do appear.
Revelation 3:11
Behold, I come quickly: hold that fast which thou hast, that no man take thy crown.

Do some camping! I've been getting into lightweight backpacking and it's a wonderful way to get away from everyone and . I find that it gives me a nice reset and a week without a hot shower and A/C makes me appreciate what I have more.

I kind of agree in that I think death is the ultimate freedom from the boundaries of life.

They label my type clinically depressed in today's society though.

I am schizoeffective.  It's like a free trip.  I am on a med to make the experience survivable and perhaps even tolerable.  I experience shamanic death and interaction on small levels.  I try to be a better person but it's hard with no role models.

Funny you say that, I could tell something was different with you by the way you type.
It's jagged, as in thoughts seem to sort of come in at hard angles rather than flowing smoothly onto the screen.

Glad you're atleast medicated.

Oddly the abuse was worse when mom was dating a Cleveland cop.  And my high ranking police uncle did diddly shit to,the child rapist that molested me and raped my friend.

Cops such role models
