Is it possible to do a photo search instead of a word search?

Let's say I like a picture of a person j don't know so how do I find more pictures of this person when I don't have a name to do my search on? Is this something an IT person can figure out?

Yes. Go to google. click images before you even type anything. On the search bar you'll see a little camera on the right side. click it. upload your photo. photo search.

When you go to sleep turn the light off. It's as simple as that.

That's not what I was looking for. Let's say there's a pic of a peeping tom how do I find more about him just by his pictures since I don't have a name to do search on someone? I guess no one has this technology yet. Hmmm.

Let's say there's a picture of a missing child; wouldn't it be great if there was a technology where you can just copy and paste that child's picture and will show more of the child's picture which could lead to the child's whereabouts via a link to a social media, etc.?

you don't get me. let's say you're a missing child and only 1 photo of you is posted, how can I find more photos of you? The technology I was hoping existed is something that would let me copy and paste that 1 picture of you to "match" more pictures of you which could lead to the "missing child" in the pic.

The technology for facial recognition exists, and has improved a lot lately with the application of deep neural networks (it's as good as humans now). Here's an interesting article. The reason you personally can't do it is that there simply isn't a publicly accessible database of faces linked with names. The closest thing any of us are likely to experience at the moment is something like Facebook's auto-tagging feature, which identifies people in images based on photos they've already uploaded of themselves. But theoretically, say you had access to the DMV database and everyone's driver's license photo. If you have a good source image, you could get pretty accurate matches for anyone in the system using existing technology. It would be possible to automatically build a profile of people online and catalog the images they've uploaded, and someday there probably will be a freely accessible people search like you envision. This would be a good business opportunity for someone who isn't creeped out by the entire concept.

I never knew it had gone that far.
That's really neat!
And scary.

say a bank robber uses a specific clothing but the face is covered up. a photo search of the person may reveal a face and likeness just by copy and pasting that provided surveillance photo of the robber. I hope this is making sense. Say a person likes striped shirt of a specific brand; copy and paste this pic and will show a match with likeness and similarities and from there on one can pinpoint who the robber is just by height/weight/etc.

It would be neat even if a "sketch" of a suspect could be "searched and compared" within a database to get a match of similarities and likeness of the person of interest in the sketch to compare with in a database of people's pictures available online. Filtering it by location would be a neat tool as well. If this is still in the early stages, it could get complex if suspect is wearing a ski mask, perhaps an "eye matcher" could be important (people do not cover their eyes when committing crimes (unless except they wear sunglasses.
