    #23473726 - 07/24/16 09:23 PM (7 years, 6 months ago)

Freezing cacti? I have 0 experience in this department,
but why would you freeze the cacti before making it into tea?

Like with mushrooms, I imagine that throwing that right into the freezer would rupture the cells,
I don't know if mesc is as unstable as psilocin but this definitely ruins the mushrooms

I wouldn't do it, just cut strips and dehydrate.

Common practice is to freeze the cactus the night before you boil it up. Its not near as sensitive as psilocybin considering you boil the cactus for 4 hours.

I mean...technically you could boil psilocybin for 4 hours  but you would never need to, semantics anyway
just being a cunt

I'm curious what others have to say about this, why do you freeze the cactus?

This thread was moved from The Ethnobotanical Garden.

Reason:
The Ethnobotanical Garden is focused on plant propagation and not their usage. Question better suited to this forum.

Wait freezing ruins psilocybin? I bought that's how they recommend storing dried cubes. Well I made chocolate bars with powder the other day and used the freezer to get the chocolate to cool off for about an hour before sticking them in the fridge; you suppose they are still okay?

So do you think my chocolate bars are okay after leaving them in the freezer for only an hour for the chocolate to harden up?

Freezing destroys only the form / shape of fresh mushrooms due to the cells beeing broken appart by the expanding water. So when you defrost them you will have mushroom-slime but no more fruitbodies to work with. The psilocybin is still in there in the water, it's not destroyed by cold temps like that.

Freezing dried mushrooms, or chocolates, is totally ok, though I keep mine in the fridge.

Awesome news, cause I got these bad boys in the fridge and I was wanting to make sure I wouldn't have any potency loss.

15g's between the both of them; can't wait to try em out.

Yeah and it's just the psilocin that is unstable, not the psilocybin, so you really only lose what you lose from drying them,
sorry to derail your thread so hard OP
Should he freeze his cactus folks?

If you plan to dehydrate the cactus to make cactuspowder then there is no need to freeze it. Just chopp into little pieces, dry them, grind and sieve out the stones.

If you want to make a tea then there is no need for drying. But freezing first may help extracting the goodies faster into the water.
