Looking for some help with blue helix grow log directions Please!!
    #23473557 - 07/24/16 08:35 PM (7 years, 6 months ago)

I was reading this post and was a little confused .
https://www.shroomery.org/forums/showflat.php/Number/5569743#5569743

Blue helix says he inoculates bags of manure , straw and a few other ingriedients with l.c.  without adding any grains .
Am i reading it correctly ?
So that means i can inoculate a grow bag of only horse manure dried , straw , stevia , b. Mustard without adding any rye or wbs grains at all  and it will still colonize with his recommended 140cc l.c. dose ?

Hoping for help from the GURUS .
Rog rabbit
Blue
Eats
Frank
Merdin and a few others , who i started to follow.

If this is true. No more expensive rye grain !!!!!!

P.s. Are Spent coffee grounds a good substitute for rye and wbs in an all in 1 bag for blues tek?

Thank you for your time and input everyone .

That tek is 10yrs old and not beginner friendly. Do you have a clean LC ready?

Stevia, b. mustard, and coffee grounds substituted for grains?

Yes I do have l.c.s ready taken from agar plates . Would the bag colonize well without grains at all ??

Would spent coffee grounds be a good substitute to grains , seeing that rye grain is very expensive .

I was also thinking I go with blues tek from my last post and just replace the rye with BRF as an all in one bag to inoculate with plenty of l.c.  Yes or no ??

Thanks Cosmo.

Lol considering half the people you asked for help from haven't posted in years and the others are no longer growing or posting you might be waiting a while.

In RR's videos he used layers of pasteurized straw with spawn (fully colonized rye berries) in between each layer. You could probably add pasteurized poo to your straw layers and use wild bird seed as spawn. That's if you wanna do a laundry basket though.

You also need to remember that in RR's videos he is growing pleurotus. I would never layer with cubes and certainly not with straw. Hell even mixing straw and cube spawn is tricky because the  straw ends can dry out if not shredded fine enough and contam. Or the cube myc isn't able to run to the tips fast enough and it. contams.

Blue helix grows copes not cubes. Cubes need grain spawn or some grain to provide decent nutes. Species is important here and the OP doesn't mention what species he is growing.

Thanks alot guys . hey pasty been reading some of your logs also .
I was wondering if growing pancyan ( trop or copes , would i still need to add spawn or can i use l.c to colonize manure bags with extra additives like in blues pan all in one grow minus any grains ?
Thanks .

.... No.  LC is not for bulk substrates.  If you're having to ask all these questions LC isn't for you anyway.

I've used l.c. before with success .
Blue helix specifically uses l.c. to innoc his bags . I just want to know if pan cyans( trips and copes) will still colonize without the grains added ?

https://www.shroomery.org/forums/showflat.php/Number/5569743#5569743

He talks about it in this post , but I am unsure as to what he is clearly stating .

If you want shitty yields from just the bulk substrate I guess go ahead. You're looking at significantly reduced yield, like, 1% of the total yield with grain.  Grain is the primary source of nutrition for any grow.

That's like saying, "I'm gonna make a super healthy smoothie today" then you pull out the blender and put in ice and a splash of milk and call it done.  Skipping pretty important steps here.

If rye is too expensive buy a 50 pound bag of whole oats for 16$

Thanks inocuole and Ndstepp for the guidance.
Does whole oats have nutrition like rye , should I blend it if I want to use for pf tek ?

I was also thinking I just do the pf tek but in solo party cups .
I was wondering if anyone knows how this is inoculated and colonized without contam ?
I have a pretty decent glovebox , but wouldn't a solo cup need some kind of lid to put in PC since those cups are pp5 material or atleast steam sterilize ?

Does anyone have hands on experience with cup teks?
