The Passion

It seems alot of people have passion about the new Jesus film coming out. Either Mel Gibson is a genious marketing strategist, or his reasons for the movie are legit... what does everyone think? This is the first of its kind, never before has there been a movie that falls into this category of debate. Mel is targeting churchers and christian organizations for his marketing campaign. Is he taking advantage of the people of faith? Did he go to far showing a bloodied pool of skin spaghetti and how it came to be that way to children and adults alike across the nation? Are his acounts of history ACTUALLY the life of jesus in the last 12 hours? Is his movie going to bring about anti-semantist debate?(someone explain what semantism is cause I just heard this somewhere else and Im dumb) Anyways, He says that " the movie is supposed to make you want to walk out" ....umm, good plan Mel. Anyways, this thread has LOTS to do with S&P, although I only touched on some minor issues.
Please post your thoughts and feelings about the death of Jesus, his life, this movie, or anything relating to the subject.

Well, if you want to get into semantics, it's actually called anti-semitism, which means the hatred of semitic people, particularly the Jews.

It's generally bias against the Jews as a people, but it can also be about their religion as well.

-------------------- Annnnnnd I had a light saber and my friend was there and I said "you look like an indian" and he said "you look like satan" and he found a stick and a rock and he named the rock ooga booga and he named the stick Stick and we both thought that was pretty funny. We got eaten alive by mosquitos but didn't notice til the next day. I stepped on some glass while wading in the swamp and cut my foot open, didn't bother me til the next day either....yeah it was a good time, ended the night by buying some liquor for minors and drinking nips and going to he diner and eating chicken fingers, and then I went home and went to bed.

"General Information
Semites are peoples who speak Semitic languages; the group includes Arabs, Aramaeans, Jews, and many Ethiopians. In a Biblical sense, Semites are peoples whose ancestry can be traced back to Shem, Noah's eldest son. The ancient Semitic populations were pastoral Nomads who several centuries before the Christian Era were migrating in large numbers from Arabia to Mesopotamia, the coasts of the Mediterranean Sea, and the Nile River delta. Jews and other Semites settled in villages in Judea, southern Palestine.
Present day speakers of Semitic languages are as diverse in physical, psychological, cultural, and sociological characteristics as are speakers of Indo European languages. The most prominent Semites today are Arabs and Jews. They are different in many ways, and they have absorbed a variety of European traits through centuries of migration and trade. The origin of Semitic languages, however, and many similarities in the stories of Islam and Judaism reflect a common ancient history."

Basically, it's a dislike of the Jews. The fear about this movie is that people will start blaming the Jews for the death of Jesus all over again.

I don't think it's a "race" and "religion". I think it's a religion and a culture. But I could be wrong.

Anti-semantics: the practice of opposing proper language

more like, well, since semantics is the study of _meaning_ in language, an anti-semantic bias would be something like being opposed to finding meaning in language...
~ semantist, samantic, gee, i dunno... ~ anti-semitism is a gut-feeling that guldurnfurgem jewrabs oughter be,well, taken out & taken care of... y'know, from stuff like 'dolphie did in old deutschland, or like the klan brothers did to that dang "sin-agog" down the street... down to stuff like not letting groucho marx join a WASP country club... go figure...

Mel Gibson said in one interview he's not hating the Jews at all for something that happened 2000 years ago, no more than he hates Germans now because of what they did in WW2.
