tub expired?

So i had series of grows that kept catching contamination. It was quiet frustrating cause i couldnt understand what i was doing different. After 3 fails, i decided to buy a new tub which seems to be making all the difference. Even thou my old tub has been washed, bleached , soaped and alchol wipped, i still seemed to be getting mold. This tub is about 4 years old and often stored outdoors , exposed to weather and gets dirt and grim all up in it. I thought i had cleaned it well enough to where that wouldnt be the issue, but my most recent project with my new tub seems to support the theory that i just cant use that tub anymore.. anyone ever heard of a tub "expiring" before?

If you cleaned the tub as well as you can, and you're still getting mold, then the mold isn't from the tub.

IME i found that mold likes to embed itself in the plastic the tub is made of if let go too long. If stored outdoors and in the sun the plastic degrades and makes microcracks where mold can hide. 4 years is a long time to be reusing a tub, so you were right to get a new one.
The cure is to spray it down with strong cleaners and let it sit so the cleaners can do their job. Generally soap and water scrub first, spray with streight from the bottle bleach for an hour, rinse with water, spray with 70 to 90 percent isopropyl alcohol and let sit an hour or until the iso dries.
This is usually enough, but if it has obvious mold staining, rinse it out, spray with a strong basic cleaner such as 70% baking soda solution to 30% lye solution or use easy off oven cleaner, let set for an hour, rinse with water, and spray with a strong acidic cleaner such as 50/50 hydrochloric acid to water or WORKS brand toilet bowl cleaner and let set for an hour, rinse again and allow to dry completely. Store the bin covered with a large trash bag until needed. Rather tedious, and probably overkill, but usually works.
Of course used tubs make very good large size planting pots as well and can be reused that way. Hope this is helpful.

I can't imagine how neglectful you'd have to be to have your monos stained from mold. Are you not using a liner? I guess you mentioned outdoors but.. man. I don't even let it sporulate enough to see much on the substrate, let alone sporulate on the walls of the tub. That's neglect tek to the max.
