G2g transfers

Can anyone share their experience with g2g transfers? how sterile was your technique, how well did it owkr out? how long did your jars take to colonize? thanks

If you cannot get a VERY sterile enviorment, like a glovebox, then forget it.

I keep meaning to builed a glovebox and start G2G, but I am mega lazy.

Well. I decided to adopt the g2g transfer as my standard when growing cubes. Currently, this works for me: agar -> 750mL (master) jar -> g2g to 5x 750mL jars. Contents of these 5 jars just fit fine in my casing containers:

The last pic is 4th flush (out of 6) with substrate depth of 3 inches.

I only have g2g experience with rye.

I just fire my gas burner and inoculate/transfer under/near it. Works fine.

Very well. A *lot* of substrate in minimum time.

With ratio 1:75 my cambodian and B+ cubes have a record of 6 days at 28 C. But with mexican cubes somehow it takes up to 14 days for me. (Dunno why.)

Quincunx, how did you manage to pull out 6 flushes? The 4th flush looks very abundent. Most 3rd flushes i've seen are at the end of their ropes. I'm really impressed.

My room is pretty clean. I haven't come upon many contam problems before. To keep things sterile i was thinking of using a flowhood, which which would consist of a box (1'x2'x1'), and rotating it so that the one open side of the box is facing me. I'd use saran wrap to cover most of the open part of the box. Would this work out ok, considering my room is generally clean?

Thank you. Well. I guess they just like the brand of rye i buy for them. It is really expensive, but they(cubes) are really happy about it.



It is worth to invest in eco/bio/organic grown grains.

I think so. Just clean it real well with some alcohol, wear glowes, work swiftly and you'll be fine. In the begining make some more jars in case one or two go wrong. Then you'll see and standardize your method as needed. Also, yes, i think clean room helps a lot. We yogis are obsessed with clean environments  :smirk:

A glove box or hepa filter in the room is almost a must.. but not always.

if you have an un-carpeted room, like bathroom for example. spray lysol in the air and work quickly, dipping your transfer spoon in 3 % peroxide between jars, don't wipe down the spoon, a bit of peroxide will help... you can do without.

I used g2g into quarts of popcorn and all i did was spray my bathroom down with lysol and wipe down counter with iso alcohol. No contam problems at all. Just pulled my shirt over my nose so i didnt breath on the work. Yes also wiped the fork with alcohol before use. The people that say gloveboxes are a must are not always correct.

g2g transfers work great for my friend, although he uses a flowhood. He has had luck with a glovebox too, and even on the countertop a few times waaaayy back before he had either one. He could smell lysol for a week after that though.
