It's hot!! AC's are running and that shit get's expensive. Been able to keep it under $100 US but I think it's going to go over; for this month. I am pretty frugal and have managed to cut utility costs while living "relatively" comfortable. Get ceiling fans.

So it's easier to run the AC throughout the day than waiting until night; to turn it on? I thought I'd be saving money by only running the AC at night.

You will.
the constant temp thing is really only better if there's people in your house all day.
if it's empty while you work and you only need it cool at night that is definitely better.
for all day cooling, it is better to keep it at a constant than to wait for it to heat up each time you throw on the air.
I should also add, i have no idea what i'm talking about.

I used 42,000 gallons watering my lawn last month, a new record for me, even got a call from the city asking if they needed to recalibrate my water meter, I like to keep my lawn lush and green like a fucking golf course.
Water is cheap here though, only added 40$ to my bill

Pretty sure I broke $200 a few times on electric bills.
I've spent a lot of time in TX and it gets hot as fuck as you all know...and I like to keep it like a meat locker up in here.
The place I stay at now though, coldest it gets is 73 or 74 when it's at peak heat outside (like yesterday when it was fucking 101, smh).

Electricity prices are different depending on the time. During peak hour, electricity is usually 2x the price depending on the utility provider.
Which is fucking bullshit. That shit just seems shady as fuck. It should be illegal to do that...how you gonna double the rate at the peak time?

The logic is that if you turn it off during the day and come home you are going to have it running full tilt for a while to displace all the hot air vs just leaving it set at a reasoable temp and having it cycle on and off intermitently to maintain the temp.
No idea if it is true that leaving it on uses less but it makes sense. Plus there is the whole higher electricity during peak use hours thing which is when most people get off work.

Not 100% sure but I believe that's becuase they are trying to get people to use use less at peak times, the more electricity needed, the more needs to be produced, emitting more pollution and greenhouse gases, the renewable grid is not nearly enough to meet demand during these times, forcing producers to fire up those "dirty coal plants"

It has been cheaper for my ac than my heat in winter in denver. Apartment dweller. My biggest bill was about 135 from what I remember, and that was dead of winter. My highest this summer so far is about 105.

dang my highest in the summer is a little over 100. i just got a couple wondow ac's though. Heating kills me though in the winter. Ive had Gas bills in the 300s. in Jan,Feb. plus I think their ripping me off charging me for more then I use. They can do whatever they want though because their the only gas company in my area. And its garbage because im sitting on top of one of the biggest natural gas deposits in the united states.

My utility bill (duel fuel, gas and electric together) is paid by Direct Debit at £57 a month and set at a rate that evens out over the year. Though it means I pay more ££s than what I'm actually using in the summer months, my low energy usage time of year, I don't get outrageous fluctuations between the summer and winter months.
I live in middle England though, where our summers seldom get so hot, 88F has been the hottest so far this summer, to warrant the cost of installing air conditioning. It's not something most people bother with over here, and, when compared to many parts of N. America, our winters are usually pretty mild as well.

I keep mine at 76'F (24C) at night and usually 80'F (26C) throughout the day. I run ceiling fans mostly, gets the job done.

I find it hard to believe that cooling a room, constantly being heated by the sun, will result in lower AC use. In my situation, the hot rooms take a while to cool off; after a hot day. The insulation retains a good bit of that heat, making it difficult to cool quickly. Sometimes the AC will continuously run for over 90 minutes; and longer, if I let it. I learned a cool trick though, blast AC to 78F and shut off. Temps will rise back to 82 but the insulation will have released some stored heat and reduced overall temperature. Repeat this process several more times until desired temps are achieved. The theory is that the lower outside night-time temps will aid in rapid cooling of a hot house. I find this method works best, after/during a rain. Rain cools houses fast! YAY RAIN, the poor man's AC. I'll try leaving it on and see if it makes a difference.
