It has been cheaper for my ac than my heat in winter in denver. Apartment dweller. My biggest bill was about 135 from what I remember, and that was dead of winter. My highest this summer so far is about 105.

dang my highest in the summer is a little over 100. i just got a couple wondow ac's though. Heating kills me though in the winter. Ive had Gas bills in the 300s. in Jan,Feb. plus I think their ripping me off charging me for more then I use. They can do whatever they want though because their the only gas company in my area. And its garbage because im sitting on top of one of the biggest natural gas deposits in the united states.
Frack water is tasty.

Water is cheap here though, only added 40$ to my bill

My utility bill (duel fuel, gas and electric together) is paid by Direct Debit at £57 a month and set at a rate that evens out over the year. Though it means I pay more ££s than what I'm actually using in the summer months, my low energy usage time of year, I don't get outrageous fluctuations between the summer and winter months.
I live in middle England though, where our summers seldom get so hot, 88F has been the hottest so far this summer, to warrant the cost of installing air conditioning. It's not something most people bother with over here, and, when compared to many parts of N. America, our winters are usually pretty mild as well.

I keep mine at 76'F (24C) at night and usually 80'F (26C) throughout the day. I run ceiling fans mostly, gets the job done.

I find it hard to believe that cooling a room, constantly being heated by the sun, will result in lower AC use. In my situation, the hot rooms take a while to cool off; after a hot day. The insulation retains a good bit of that heat, making it difficult to cool quickly. Sometimes the AC will continuously run for over 90 minutes; and longer, if I let it. I learned a cool trick though, blast AC to 78F and shut off. Temps will rise back to 82 but the insulation will have released some stored heat and reduced overall temperature. Repeat this process several more times until desired temps are achieved. The theory is that the lower outside night-time temps will aid in rapid cooling of a hot house. I find this method works best, after/during a rain. Rain cools houses fast! YAY RAIN, the poor man's AC. I'll try leaving it on and see if it makes a difference.
