Is the Italian Mafia dead?

I know there's still low level organized crime guys out there that are trying to keep the tradition's pulse still going, but they're obviously (or at least it appears anyway) just a mere shell of what they used to be.
For all intents and purposes is the mob dead, or are they just laying lower than ever and taking a different approach nowadays? You never hear anything about the Italian mafia anymore. Seems like as far as mafias go, the Russian Mob now dwarfs them.

They are as dead as the hells angels

If forced to give it a name, I call it Great (ta). Being great, it flows out; Flowing out means far-reaching; Being far-reaching, it is said to return. It's just a shot away..

BTW reason I ask is I just now watched a documentary on the Italian mob on Nat Geo. They were some powerful ass dudes back in the day as we all know.

I've got an Italian friend who has quite a few family members with strong mob ties, think they're all older dudes though. I agree that I think the Russian mafiya is a lot more powerful these days
I've also met a hells angel. He was the father of this girl I was tryna fuck when I was like 15. Saw the dude doing lines of coke while I was over which was pretty surprising at the time, and I found out later on that the dude was a convicted child rapist. Fuck that guy

My dad told me a story about his one friend who got in deep with the Warlocks, apparently they fronted him a shitload of dope and he didn't have the money when the deadline came around so four of them broke into his house while he was sleeping and held guns to him right in his bedroom
Scary shit

Most of you guys have seen Casino, right? The documentary I saw just now was on the actual guys that were portrayed in the film.
Joe Pesci's character in the film was based off a dude by the name of Tony Spilatro. Dude was fucking ruthless as fuck. Beyond ruthless. Basically the portrayal of the character in the film was who he really was in real life.
Like if that dude was coming to see you, you were probably in big fucking trouble. Tortured and dumped in the desert kind of trouble.

Yeah I heard that too. That and dudes stopped living by their code and started to turn informant to save themselves.
And also guys like John Gotti who were seemingly more interested in becoming a celebrity. Gotti loved the camera. If you're the head of a major organized crime family, wouldn't you want to stay in the shadows as much as fucking possible? Not Gotti, though. That guy lived for that shit.

Oh and just like in the film, when they found him...he was beaten to a pulp and buried (they think he was buried still breathing) in a cornfield.

Damn that's a pretty striking resemblance actually. Not that surprising when you consider there's only like 4 different faces Italian dudes can have.
And damn, what a savage demise

Italians did the shit they did because like all nationalities when they first came to this country they were hated
it was mostly about alcohol, prostitution then it moved into gambling
I don't think any real blooded italians were trafficking coke as much as the other people in the 70's 80's, but tbh they were always less likely to end up in jail because of their skin color
John Gotti is a snitch btw most of them snitch one person snitches brings everyone else in and then they all end up snitching (a little) i dont care what gang your in you are going to get snitched on and yeah the old hag or the child rapist will probably be the first one to do it if you're snitching on someone for a lower crime that's really dumb tho, you're essentially just pissing off one extra person

They're just laying low & have diversified. There's this segment on the Philly news called Mob Talk, and they were saying the Philly mob just made 40+ new guys back in January. Lotta old heads getting out after 20+ years in the can as well.
