Spawn bag issue
    #23469034 - 07/23/16 11:27 AM (7 years, 6 months ago)

I can fit 4 spawn bags into my pc. with a weight on top

The bottom two either don't seal or suck water in.

I have tired putting medical tape on them to to stop them from expanding to force air out of the bag. yet the bottom two are always bag.

Do they have filter patches? If so are you folding them to face up and are you using tyvek sleeves for pressure balance?

OFc they have filiter patches.

I have been folding them so the filters are covered by plastic. I have used with and without tyvek same issue.

Edit

Should I have the patch exposed to the pressure cooker and covered with tape?

No the patches stay folded in but facing upward in the ribbon fold. Don't cover the holes with tape. If your bags are expanding inside the PC then it could be one of a few things. You're heating it too fast, not enough or too much water, or you are depressurising too soon. Leave the rocker on until it hits it's natural cool down.

I have been heating them fast.

I let them cool over night.

So accordion style with the filiter facing up. Should I keep using tape to keep the bag tight and pressed together?

Ive always used tape with bags but it's been a while since doing them. Put a ceramic bowl or plate to weigh it all down and jar lids as bottom and side spacers to keep them off the PC. Usually bag expansion is going to be related to a drastic change in pressure, so try heating it up gradually over about 10mins. Run the full PC cycle then turn off. Let cool on burner for around 20mins, remove from burner and wait for the pressure gauges to drop to 0 before removing the rocker if you have one, or opening the lid.

Squeezing the air out would do more than tape.

good move cooling them overnight. I don't use tyvek sleeves. Definitely wait until you're about to innoc bags to touch the weight or remove the lid.

If ur bottom two get water inside, u have too much water in pc.  Gotta account for boil bubble height hehehe

Its weird ur bottom two expand...usually the top ones get mis shapen but not enough that u can't use them

Well most of the time the bags at the bottom would have visble sign of expansion. So I would also be thinking the heating too fast was playing a major roll.

Yes heat up slowly in increments. That will help avoid water evaporation in the PC and give the bags time to regulate temps. You wouldn't want someone to randomly catch your ass on fire lol.  :oldman:
