How did shroomery survive for such a long time?
    #23466853 - 07/22/16 05:37 PM (7 years, 6 months ago)

don't get me wrong.. love it here.
But I am sure that we all know that a lot topics contain information about illegal substances.
Certainly the drug enforcement administration isn't very happy about people giving advice how to grow psychedelics/weed. A lot of people here grow their own stuff, give advice how to consume them.
Many websites get shut down by the government. How did shroomery survived for such a long time with no trouble. Just asking. Love it here and it's the best.

I haven't seen any similar websites being shut down.

Most speech is protected by the first amendment.

Online drug enforcement typically only goes after big sellers, and we don't have any of those here....and if we did, liability would fall on the seller, not us because we ban anyone we notice trying to sell illegal things here.

I have seen quite a few been taken down. (in different countries)
I mean do we have to worry, that they could potentially track any of us down ?
They could literally get any of us into trouble if they really wanted to for having shrooms or other stuff.

I haven't seen any taken down in the USA that weren't selling illegal drugs.

You can worry as much as you want, however no one has complained of being tracked down by posting pictures of mushrooms online.

That's not really how law enforcement works.  They don't troll the internet looking for people who use drugs or grow small amounts.  They could just check google for that and find millions of names....but it's no fun to bust someone for a victimless crime that is far away from your jurisdiction anyway.  The cops don't really care about drugs, they know a lot of people use them and unless you get high and do fucked up shit to people, it's not something they are going to be tracking down your IP address for.

If you are paranoid, mention that you took the pics at a friends house or a year ago.  Probable cause goes stale pretty quickly in the USA.

EXIF data is automatically stripped from all pics uploaded to this site, so you don't need to worry about timestamps or gps coordinates being included in the images.

The only one that I ever heard getting taking down was Overgrow because Marc Emory had it connected to his seed bank. The transformation of information is almost always legal under the constitution, except certain information like kiddie porn photos and maybe some terrorist stuff.

Cuz agents frequent this site for information. With The Shroomery in business, they know where the Magic Mushroom crowd hangs out. If they shut it down, it creates chaos, as the peeps move to other sites (or no site at all). They would be shooting themselves in the foot; destroying a great source of leads and intelligence.

It's sorta like assassinating an "evil" dictator. It doesn't change the fact that there's a whole crowd of people with a certain viewpoint. Soon thereafter, a new one rises to power, the whole political structure changes, and it's a ton of hassle and a decade to re-establish the boundaries--only to end up right where they started from. It's better to work with whatever political structure is established and in place.

I should probably also mention the first amendment, but realistically...

yeah makes sense to have all people in one place.
like a shepherd who guards herds of sheep.

But what are they looking for when they don't do anything?
Just checking what the community is up to or are they looking for users that might deal with great amounts psychedelics?

That one is easy. It's a peer to peer venue on which the owners have no legal responsibility to what somebody says on the site. Freedom of speech is still a human right guaranteed by the US Constitution (but for how long?). The owners keep their noses clean.

Also if you you were in the FED's shoes, would you want to get rid of a very big and easy fishing hole? I mean think about it- the ever popular "Post your...." threads. For example if the picture was taken from a newer cellphone the images have the date, time, UUID number, and GPS locations are all embedded in the data.

Will they go after someone growing a few cakes in a tub, or growing a single cannabis plant in their closet, probably not. Would they go after someone who brags they grew 10 pounds of weed and gloats about how much money they got- probably.

My guess is that they aren't looking very much.  Certainly they show up a few times because we show up in their google searches...But I doubt they visit the site regularly or really care what people say.

All that data is stripped upon uploading.

Its possible but I haven't really noticed them going after anyone.  People who post large amounts don't seem to be getting busted much.

The truth is that cops don't really care about mushrooms, nor do they take the drug war super seriously.  There are plenty of idiots who get busted with regular police work, they don't need to troll the net to find more.

If I was a fed I would be looking right at the shroomery and putting people undercover in it. How it has survived for such a long time is a good question, but I have an idea why as well as some other sites.

That isn't how the feds work, they don't do random operations on random websites to catch people who have personal use amounts of drugs.  If they are going to do an operation it would be on people who are much higher up in the supply chain than people who post here.  There are many people who routinely ship large amounts of drugs and they are easy to find on the darknet, people who grow a few mushrooms aren't really on their radar.

What's your idea?

Freedom of speech & safe harbor provision since the site owners aren't doing anything illegal and routinely ban those who use the site illegally?

Name some other mushroom sites with the amount of traffic shroomery has? Or any drug website for that matter.

Your paranoia is suspect enough to warrant further investigation. Try to chill. Remember. It's always someone you no. A friend, coworker, associate, acquaintance, ect are always the ones who will rat on you and get you in trouble. Not some web site. But by far, 9 out of 10 times. It's your PIC (Partner In Crime) who gets you busted. People can't help it to blame others. Survival instinct? Who knows. Always do your dirt alone.

And then what happens?    Nothing?

What ever happened to all the thousands of people who posted pics of illegal mushrooms?  Nothing?

But they are after you.  Sure they are.
