They're back! I think I was a couple of days late. Many were already rotten, the ones that weren't were starting to dry out. All found in Cherokee County.
First I spotted these rotten bastards.

Then I found these beauties about 40 yards away in a nice moist shady area. The cap on the big one was about 3 inches in diameter.

I decideded to go check on another patch down the road and found these guys. Its hard to tell in the crappy cell phone pictures but there were about 30 total here (about half were rotten).

I had to walk 30 miles to take these photos. Growing in a place that was an old sawmill. From Jalisco, Mexico. I took these a couple years ago, first time posting them on the shroomery.

Alan, those are incredible. I definitely have never had any finds like that here in GA. It is amazing the differences in appearances between the Mexican and Georgia variety.

Beautiful! Im taking a trip to Puerto Vallarta in December. Have you ever found these near the coast or are all your finds more inland?
All my finds are more inland, at higher elevation. These pics are at 2100 meters. They are much more rare by the coast - the species that are common next to the coast are Psilocybe cubensis, Panaeolus cinctulus and Copelandia cyanescens.

I recommend getting a Ninon D7000 with a 60mm macro lens. You can get this world class setup for $500 used on ebay.
I used a Canon 60D w/ 105mm macro lens to take these pics. 105mm is too much for mushrooms though, get a 50 or 60mm macro. For lighting I spread out some white paper towels in front of the mushrooms just out of the frame, and turned the flash on to its lowest setting, -3. For most of the pics if the sun is hitting the mushroom directly I ask a friend to block it with their shadow, but stand just right so the sun does hit the paper towels. Can be a bit like playing twister sometimes to get the background in the shadow too.
