Elm Oyster or Pleurotus
    #23465331 - 07/22/16 09:15 AM (7 years, 6 months ago)

I've grew these from a LC I got from a Canadian vendor a few years back, I forget which..

From looking at a thread here it seems as if these were NOT H. ulmarius, but true oysters.  They tend to form larger individual mushrooms with larger caps than the blue oysters I grew:

(Both fruiting from supplemented pine litter outdoors at 50F.)

The culture was definitely marketed as Elm Oyster, as is this culture from everything mushrooms: http://everythingmushrooms.com/grow-your-own-mushrooms/mushroom-cultures/hypsizygus-ulmarius-elm-oyster-mushroom-10cc-liquid-culture/

So is this culture H. ulmarius or P. ostreatus?  The fruits actually look a lot like the wild oysters I find locally.

Nope not elm. I just did a looky on Google, and no they look 100% like Pleurotus ostreatus.

Those look gorgeous, and I've never seen them sold here anywhere.  I'm going to have to track down an actual culture.

elms are very pale in colour (color for you yanks), almost white. around the edges of the caps you can see the gills through the cap at times. very distinct.
