City water has a lot of dissolved solids for sure. Mine was just especially bad! Boil a pot of water till near dry and you'd probably see the same thing as you do in your pc.
But ya i'm lost as to ops issue. Never seen anything like that before

the pressure cooker is brand new, and never used before by me or anyone else. the water itself wasn't black, maybe a tiny bit brown but had weird lookin gunk floating on the surface, my water isnt very hard here at the new house, possibly from the water softner? idk but that black residue on the trays, was not there before i PCed the jars, a 2 hour cycle, cooled over night and opened up to find that. where the jars were sitting isnt black which is weird if that black coloration was from the water you would figure it would get under the jars as well?

the pressure cooker did not run dry, the water that is in it with the possible mineral deposits? floating in it is what was left from the cycle. so now that we have a good idea that the "gunk" is probably minerals, why the black discoloration? i havent tried scrapeing it yet or even dumped the water and when i do i will update but its just very curious. lol as i said before is it possible that there were some nasties on the walls from when i did my grain soak and it just washed down the sides and gunked up on the tray? no idea because it was perfectly silver when i closed the lid with the jars inside.

the black ish brown coating goes up the side walls to where the water was at the start of PCing, the water is a good inch lower now( after pcing) than the black on the walls of the PC. what is even more curious is the fact that the tray underneath the first one, and what i mean by that is there were 2 canning racks, the one the jars were one somehow did not get turned black underneath where the jars sat, but the tray underneath that one, as well as the bottom of the PC are black as well, how the hell did the jars sheild it from discoloring? lol i will post pictures in a minute.

everything was originally the shiny silver color that the top of the PC is, everything below the original water line, (not the current water level) is now black. lol anyone with imput would be great, has anyone seen this before?

Wait you actually got the weight to jiggle on the Mirro 22qt? My Mirro 22qt just blows a huge load of steam every few minutes.
That being said, the water in mines always seems about the same at the end of the cycle as it is in the beginning, except there is white mineral deposits on the everything due to hard water.

did the bottom of yours turn black? and no, i did not get the weight to jiggle, it also wouldnt blow a load of steam for the first hour or so until i lifted and dropped the weight, then it started to blow loads of steam, so i beleive that is how this model is made to work.

Oops, I meant to say that the water looks the same at the end of the cycle as in the beginning.

I was drinking one night pc'ing pretty late and passed out woke up an hour after the two hour cycle was done and the water was almost gone it was under the plate ... the grains were black as Fuck and it looked kinda like that I usually put water up just under halfway on the jars if the water rind dry you can warp your cooker mine will not sit flat no more I think you need a bit more water next time
