In my experience APE does fairly well off of small substrates. Depending on if you cased I see a obscene pinset where only 10% develop but still produces a decent APE yield. APE is a water hog so misting and possible bottom watering will probably be needed.

Grab a cake, fill a saucer with water, put cake on saucer, the end. With bulk, grab a bottle, pour water down the side of the liner, drain water after 2 hours, the end.

cron! Nice to see you pop by!
Everyone need not get their hopes up for this grow, I don't want it to fail and then ya'll be upset.
But if it does fail, I will likely keep trying until success is had, to share with all of you. May be I am just paranoid about my grows and it will be fine, this is likley the case.
Pasty might be right on the ball though, when he talked about bottom watering may be important with a substrate of this size. I can try to put the poly even tighter, but I don't know how much tighter it will go, without forcing and breaking the tub. I might have to give it a drink. I have given it a few heavy mist, one earlier today, but it seem to dry out quick. I don't want to waterlog the casing with misting too much.
I was thinking I'll fill up a syringe with water and inject it to underneath the substrate, by sticking it between the sub and the liner. Just a small amount, maybe 1ml in each corner. Should make it fairly easy. Everything has been such a pain to do because of the size, very hard to work with yet still maintain the full scale look/feel. This thing is delicate, only got one, we don't want to mess it up.
I'll also tight up the top poly more. Last time I just added two more layers to each bottom hole, it seem super tight now. (Thats what she said)
Still looking good. I'll post picture up whenever (if ever) I see a pin, not much to see until then. Might be a bit.

These are 5 "flushes" with a substrate of just 20g of dry wheat with a verm casing.
The log is here https://www.shroomery.org/forums/showflat.php/Number/4294326
I note that the 2nd "flush" seemed to be stunted in growth and that the substrate was very dry, the mushroom itself was very dry too. In the later ones I was doing what people nowadays call "bottom watering", first one looks to have water in the bottom too.

Did you get a total yield weight at all?
I'll be happy if mine even puts out one APE fruit. Nice work, I am impressed.
I did bottom water mine today, this may take a little tinkering to get the hang of. I'll keep at it, next time I'm going to use a more "normal" cube variety.

No, in the growlog I say my scale was broken for the last 2. first was 15g, but drier than usual
Quote:
This 3rd flush weighed 20.8g wet, that big shroom one was 11.2g, very heavy sporulation. Thats a BE in a single flush of 104% or 115% if you calc using absolute dry weight, if you take the second flush as a normal wet weight of 5.5g (it was less as it was dry but if normal it would have been about 5.5g) overall the BE is over 200% in less than ideal conditions, if I get another relatively big flush I will be amazed. At this point my yield is comparable to a PF cake, but using only a 20g of wheat and a sprinkling of verm.
That would have been ignoring the verm weight though.
PF said
Quote:
In a normal PF 1/2 pint cake, there is about 31 grams of brown rice powder (1/4 cup) and about 17-20 grams of vermiculite (1/2 - 2/3 cup) which adds up to about 50 grams dry weight. It can be conservatively stated that a properly cultivated PF 1/2 pint cake can produce (with several flushes) at least 10 grams of dry shrooms (100 grams wet weight). By using the above biological efficiency formula - this equals an easy 200% biological efficiency for that 1/2 pint PF cake (50 grams of dry substrate producing 100 grams of wet shrooms is twice efficiency - the wet shroom weight is twice the weight of the dry substrate, or in other words - 200%).

You should keep track of weights which will give you an idea of the moisture content. After dunking I reweigh small substrates to see if I reckon it was long enough. As time goes on and the substrate is more spent it should weigh less, this can be calculated. Coir can easily take on too much water and get sodden.

Be careful with the bottom watering. Over watering too soon will waterlog the sub. I usually wait until the pinset is in before I start.

When and do you recommend bottom watering pasty? For any and all tubs, after the pins come in?

The micro sub is pinning up good, but it isn't in the micro mono anymore, I decided to pull it out so I could still get a nice flush.
I need to tinker with the holes more, maybe tape a couple on my next attempt. I didn't wana lose this grow so I transfered it to a mini mono I have going right now. It is suspended above the sub with another APE cake, the tub is the one in my first penis of 2016 thread. I have 3 substrates in the tub total now, all are pinning up nice.
Turns out the hole setup being some what the same as a full size generates way too much FAE, even though it look cool as fuck, it does not work. It makes sense though, a lot smaller sub so it can't maintain the high moisture levels inside, like a full size. Maybe next time I will tape one of each side hole and one top.
The micro APE sub already has some sexy looking small shrooms on it. The penis tub (original sub in mono) is showing tons of pins, after I messed with the FAE a bit and gave it a heavy mist, to wake it up. The APE cake is just starting to form some white dicks (lot of primordia).
I turned 3 grows into one big orgy.
Here is neak peak of APE micro sub.

I'll get better photos of everything up in this thread soon, I'll let the other thread die.
