Same thing I use to root. Unchlorinated water. Usually bottled spring water.  I've rooted a ton that way. I'd say 10/10 will root..... unless it's hot season. I seem to have way less luck rooting this time of year.

40% perlite you have found is too much? So a richer, more water retaining soil has worked best for you?

I tend to use around 40-50% perlite, but I can't say I've nailed the soil mix... maybe I can actually try less perlite in a mix

Yeah maybe I'll try less, I just figured with salvia preferring damp but well draining soil that I'd want a good bit of perlite, seems okay.

And yeah I'm sure you could just throw them in water but I like DIY projects and had some spare fish stuff around so I made a small bubble cloner for free essentially, I also like how I don't have to worry about changing the water as often while waiting for roots.

I'm by far an expert at this either I admit it's my first time growing this plant so I'm just going off what I've read here and else where.

Any who I got distracted today with a few new succulents I bought today so I'll plant the new salvia clone tomorrow and share some photos.

Good to know guys. Sure will come in handy when i want to propagate mine into a forest. So just water. Let them sit. No high humidity or nothing?

We'll my clones where droopy as all he'll until I added a big bag over them to retain humidity so it helped me but might not be needed in every situation.

Ya made me realize something... usually in our drier, cooler months, I root in the exact same condition as which the plant is grown. Room temp, in water, no humidity tent.

Well ever since summer started I haven't been able to get a cutting to root this way. These freshly taken cuttings started drooping, so I put a bag over them a days ago (after reading this discussion) and they perked back up. So thats awesome. Lets see if I can't get some gotdamn roots on these guys.

When I first started with this plant I use to root in humidity tents... not sure why I stopped that somewhere along the lines. May be a conditional thing.

Good stuff shroomizzy, I figured since I live in a sub tropical climate I would have no issues with rH and salvia but idk after watching my clones melt away I got desperate and put the bag on them now I got hella roots on one...the other had a lower node rot off I clipped it again because the rest of the plant looks fine, hope she roots as well.

Also when I got home today after work MY LIGHTS FELL ON MY MOTHER AGAIN!!!!!!

I got fed up and found my power supply cable to my 150w LED panel so hopefully she doesn't suffer from the change too much, that and the being burned alive twice now...ugh.

I'll upload some photos of her in the sexy purple light.

Ime, always root cuttings in the same conditions as the mother plant. While salvia prefers humidity and warmth,  the degree of each that it is accustomed to will determine its health. The plants can be acclimated slowly to whatever environment that is within its normally preferred range.

Hey I'm new here, I just registered cause I have 2 Salvias, 1 indoor and 1 outdoor and this quite the only active forum I've found on the Internet about this plant !

So here are pictures of my babies  ( Click on them to see in full resolution )

Outdoor on the left and indoor on the right, I placed them next to each other for comparing them ( about 2 weeks ago ) in my greenhouse :

The leaves were about 30 cm length on the outdoor plant and the main stem 18 mm thick on each side. (Actually the bigger one is a cutting I made from the one that grows indoor, it grows so well in my greenhouse !)

I'll keep u updated about them

Lovely lovely ladies.

Welcome to the forums...this is a great place and quite a few great people are around as well.

My salvia is perky as ever...she's really liking that LED panel guys.

I still haven't planted my clone...gf is on vacation and she demands a lot of time LOl. Hopefully she'll be okay in the cloner for a little while longer.

Hey everyone,  so I have three  cuttings in water.  Two are rooting pretty well.  How long should I let them be until moving to soil? I'll get pics here in a minute.
