Newbie to mushroom growing
    #23421081 - 07/07/16 06:38 PM (7 years, 7 months ago)

Hello,

I am attempting to grow mushrooms for the second time.  The first time was on rye berries in a grow bag from a company that isn't in business.  Pity since I had three flushes from the grow bag.  Anyway I am trying again for the second time.  I have purchased small bags of rye berries that I have inoculated.  It has been over a and I don't see any mycelium yet.  I have the bags in a bread proofer set at 85 degrees.  Should I just be patient or have I lucked out?

DI'd you just buy a bag of rye kernels and immediately squirt some spore solution in there?

You are wayyyy off on your strategy. First off take them out of the heater right now and just let them sit on a shelf somewhere that won't range far in between 70 and 80 degrees.
Then go to the getting started potion of the site, this is a very wrong way to start things but if you read up in the next few days you can get some beautiful mushrooms!

Hello again:  I have mycelium growing, but slowly.  Attached is a photo.  The bread proofer worked for me in the past, so it looks like it is working again.  The going seems slow, over a week now, should I break up the mycelium to speed growth?  As always, your suggestions and guidance are appreciated.

Mimi

Grains can be shaken at 20-30%, so yes you can knead and shake the bags now. Why are the gussets of the bags not expanded? You can't get GE through the filter patches with the tops folded down.

Good luck! :toast:

Those already look so bacterial.  Just.. start over now.  You can keep those but seriously, get started on something else, that is not going to turn out the way you're hoping.  The truth stings but it's better to face it ASAP.

You got success in the sense you made it to the finish line, but I wouldn't quite call that hitting the goal time..  A fruiting chamber could've benefited that tremendously.
