Building an underground village and using plants for oxygen??

So let's say you were using earthbag homes to build a village of underground homes and underground greenhouses that were connected with tunnels. The roofs are above ground if that makes any difference. Would having a bunch of very low-light plants inside of the village provide enough oxygen for easy breathing? Or would pumps have to be installed?

(Grain-to-Grain) Damion5050's Coir Tek (I use 5.5 - 6 quarts of water instead of 4. Also ignore step 13 and ignore the monotub completely. The only purpose of this tek is to show you how to make a simple substrate. I also add gypsum to it but not necessary) Spitball's Monotub Tek (A liner isn't necessary but is useful) Use 6500k lights throughout the whole process. When you wake up, turn the light on. When you go to sleep turn the light off. It's as simple as that.

I'd wager you would need to pull in above-ground ventilation... but I'm no expert in the matter.

No they wouldn't. Well, I guess theoretically you could but you'd have to have so many plants in proportion to living space it wouldn't be economical. There's also other factors involved. One being plants converting CO2 to O2 drops during night cycle. Also they can only process so much CO2 before O2 production drops off.
You can look into the Biosphere projects for more info on this. I think they used algae to produce O2 instead of plants though. It still didn't work for long.

Even if an outside air source is needed, air plants and the like could be used to help clean the air to make it less stale and clear out contaminants.
