Dangers of WiFi
    #23461940 - 07/21/16 08:08 AM (7 years, 6 months ago)

Did u know wifi emits same radiation as your mobile phone?

And u do know what happens to u if u hold it to your head rather than your hand while making calls??

Your wifi router emits same waves only 5 times stronger if not more and it is on ALL THE TIME!

Check out my meter! It's on red!

Why does everyone freak out about radiation? Radiation is awesome! I love radiation! Without radiation, I wouldn't be alive. None of you would be alive either. As far as humanity knows, life cannot exist without radiation.

Some types of radiation, specifically ionizing radiation, isn't great for you. Wifi, cellphones, and the light coming from your lamp does not fall into this category, though they are all radiation.

All squares are rectangles, but not all rectangles are squares.

considering how polluted the air we all breathe is, the water we all drink is, the foods that many of us eat are, the other plethora of toxic substances one might take into their body, i'd say it is damn near impossible to point to one specific mode of cancerous agent.

seeing as how you are the one making the argument, why don't you provide peer-reviewed evidence to support your claim(s)?

Dude, you think that's bad? Forget about mobile phones, your router LITERALLY gives off the SAME RADIATION as your microwave oven. Have you ever seen what happens when you microwave a CD? Now, just imagine you replace the microwave with your router, and replace the CD with your FACE. There's a reason I stick with RFC1149-compliant hardware for all my communications.

Are there any scientific studies that link WLAN to health risks ?

My post above was firmly tongue-in-cheek. People keep trying to find risks, and periodically there will be a study that finds wifi cause autism or super-herpes or something, and it will grab headlines for a few days and my mom will forward it to me before more reputable scientists come along and tear it apart.

Personally, I am satisfied with the explanation provided by science about why ionizing radiation is so dangerous and carcinogenic, and why non-ionizing radiation is so comparatively safe. In my opinion and understanding, the microwaves given off by cell phones and wifi are about as physically dangerous as the light from a flashlight. If a plausible mechanism is proposed for how low-power microwaves could cause damage to humans, I'll consider revising my beliefs. But right now people struggle to even demonstrate a correlation, let alone a means of causation.

I think anyone who is spending their time worrying about dangers from their router should instead commit to 15 minutes of brisk exercise and one extra serving of vegetables per day. It may not be as satisfying as fear-mongering about technology on Tumblr, but it's a much more practical and effective way to protect your health and it's actually supported by science.

Here's a question though: say it does turn out that somehow wifi and cell phones actually are as bad for you as smoking cigarettes. If there's no safer alternative, do you think most people would actually stop using wireless communication? I think the majority would just accept the risk as a tradeoff for the convenience. I mean, I might stop sleeping with my phone taped to my balls, but otherwise I wouldn't really change my behavior much.

I can't think of a single reason why low power microwaves would be dangerous. The only reason I can think of microwaves being dangerous is due to dielectric heating. This would suck if it was concentrated, or high power, because then you would cook like a TV dinner. At low power, it won't affect your tissue temperature enough for any damage to occur. Except maybe a sweat stain.

There was an old story, which might be an urban legend, of microwave relay station attendants (back when long distance communications used microwave relays) stationed in cold regions would occasionally walk in front of the dish when the heater wasn't up to par. According to the story, one guy decided to put a lawn chair in front of the dish on a cold night, fell asleep, and cooked himself.

Seeing as how those attendants don't seem to be dropping like flies, I'm going to assume my first paragraph is correct. We'd definitely hear about it, since lawsuits are as American as baseball and apple pie.
