Gangster rap 3

If you had someone listen to the stuff out there that has never heard they would probly lose their mind. I understand the free speech and most of it is entertainment and performers trying to sell an image but come on, the lyrics to some of the stuff I hear is just evil.
It's even crazier when posting lyrics will get me banned (happened in past)
So which came first the lyrics or the culture?
I can go on for days on why gangster rap is trash but want to hear your thoughts. Are the lyrics provoking the actions or are the horrible actions that have happened thru out humanity being put into an art form?

I only enjoy listening to Tech N9ne. Some of it is pretty evil. He does however have much music that is not like that. Such as "One good cry" or I think it may be called "One good time" or you can check out "Why you aint call me"
stuff like that or "Cry baby", it's pretty good and not so typical at all.

Eh, I'm firmly against any form of hip hoppery.
All of it comes from the same vein. Even with positive lyrics, just glitter on a turd.
Regarding its detrimental effects on society, in my mind they are unequivocal... Glorifying a banal materialist frame of mind...

Don't see what you're getting at here man, can you explain?
Personally, I fucking love well made Hip-Hop, it's one of my favourite genres. IMO, what brought it to the limelight after its inception was the accuracy of the social critique of the harsh living conditions those making it were brought up in. I mean just check this out:
It's fucking well done man, whether one enjoys the genre or not the lyrics are hard to argue with.
However at some point a huge swathe of artists in the genre started on about how much money/how many bitches/how many people they killed/etc - I fucking loathe that shit.
The good stuff is still out there, but it seems to be getting rarer, unfortunately.

natural born Killaz by Dre and ice cube. In that song they rap about cutting people up and busting nuts on dead bodies. It's pretty rad.

I'll agree to disagree here, but strongly disagree with your subjective opinion about it being 'degenerative nonsense'.
A spade to you is not a spade to me, true objectivity is not possible from either of our perspectives.

I had a friend who was a part time dealer, at first he was pretty chill and would eat psychedelic and mainly toke up and sell weed / psychs.
Eventually though as he started making more ridiculous "bro" friends through school he started listening to crap rap and doing/ selling MDMA and coke.
That was when I stopped hanging out with him and I would say the glorification of being a dealer totally pushed him into it sadly

Its funny you say that because you obviously haven't listened to enough hip-hop music to form a good opinion of it. Its such a broad genre of music and probably about half of it is about the complete opposite of what youre claiming its all about. "its darkness"?

Struggled with that one a bit. It's got too much of a 'Trap' style to the backing. I prefer the old school:

That was friggin awesome. That's my favorite album by them, I didn't know they did any acoustic stuff at all.
Hook it up with some UK rap. I listen to everything I can really. Some stuff is more of the mood and setting, there's some stuff I really can't get into, but even kanye's made me nod my head a few times.

CunninLynguists were probably my favorite "rap" group when I actually listen to the genre much. I mainly liked their older stuff though.
Some of their more recent albums sound a lot more mainstream and less original then their first couple with some exceptions of course.
Kno their producer is great and makes some really beautiful beats. I love how he samples stuff from really obscure stuff and makes it work super well.
CunninLynguists - Remember Me (Abstract/Reality)
That instrumental is a great example, here is another more "epic" instrumental with some lyrics at the end:
CunninLynguists War
-------------------- Don't worry about me, I've got all that I need. And I'm singing my song to the sky You know how it feels, With the breeze of the sun in your eyes. Not minding that time's passing by I've got all and more, My smile, just as before. Is all that I carry with me I talk to myself, I need nobody else. I'm lost and I'm mine, yes I'm free

rap tells a story: it uses the imagery of the ghetto to tell the american myth of redemption (and the inevitable fall) through capitalism. and to me, it's entertainment. it's no different than watching movies like "goodfellas" or "casino". people who try to live that stuff are fools. if anything, gangster stories - whether they are told through music or film - are tragedies, cautionary tales of how not to live.
i like all kinds of rap music, but i find most "socially conscious" rap to be contrived and boring.
and as a life long hip hopper, in spite of my 90's hip hop pedigree, i try to keep up with the music. i've been digging these two mixtapes lately.
big k.r.i.t. - 12 for 12
what can i say? dude's a beast. in this tape, k.r.i.t. effortlessly gives nods to all of the big names by doing their styles better than they can while maintaining his own. and all of it's freestyle; even the beats (which are dope) sound like someone just putting on a record before handing him the mic.
dyme-a-duzin - 2 piece tape
polished beats with good lyricism.
you guys should try listening to some other artists besides biggie, pac, wu-tang etc. there's a lot of good stuff coming out now.

Gangsta rap in its many forms is one of my all time favorite kinds of music, and I'm fond of many. Tragically misunderstood art form.
Just a few tracks that cut into me real deep. They're just a buncha stupid fucking rap songs to most of you, but hopefully someone else out there feels the power like I do. can't put it into words.

East1999 was my first tape cassette when I was a kid. I only really liked a few tracks at the time like crossroads. I couldnt make out everything they said at the timeand was to young to understand what most of it meant, I'm glad because it probly would have
It's the stuff out there that is all about doing crimes and glorifiing it. And if you have a problem with it then he and his crew kill you, rape your baby momma, pis in your casket and your family idolizes him because he is so fly and rich and the best at everything and you are a hater. just not for me.

to answer your question i would need examples of artists that you consider gangster rap. some rappers openly admit that rap is their part-time job so to speak and their true lives reflect in the weakness of their product. the better trap artists don't necessarily live the lives that they speak about just like some of the best movie directors have no first hand experience with the art that they portray and create. if you don't like the culture or the music why not just ignore it. i'm sure there are people that don't like country but they don't feel the need to get satisfaction out of putting down people that create it or listen to it. there's some legitimate trap music that can simply put you in the mood and the mindset of what's going through alot of criminals minds as they're making a living serving their community, drugs, gangs, etc.

If your part of the shroomery and you don't know the crack commandments by heart you probably ended up in jail.
That's something I recited over and over back in my drug selling days. "been in this game for years. It's made me an animal. There's rules to this shit I made me a manual a step by stop booklet to get your game on track not your wig pushed back. " perfect truth. That's how I did it. The 10 commandments. I don't have to do that anymore. But I did.

"In the days of kings and queens I was a jester." "And then the great lord created bears... too many bears... shoulda really dialed back on the bears." Squidbillies "Can you start speaking words instead of your damn filthy lies!"- Louise "Bobs Burgers"

Right off the top. Not saying their the worst but they are some names I've heard with lyrics of the above mention statements.
Also you don't see or hear garth brooks on TV or radio singing about horrible acts of violence...second thought stay on point don't go there in conversation it's just a waste of time.

well if your point is that three 6 mafia is evil, anyone that follows them would openly admit that hypnotize minds is down with the devil. it's art, entertainment. but they're not even "gangster" rap really. i listen to most of it for the beats.

Great call on that UGK track hex. Couple more from me; the mid 90's was the golden age of Hip-Hop for me:

Something can happen to the body, but it will either heal or it won't. What's the big deal? Let life knock you to bits. Let life take you apart. Let life destroy you. It will only destroy what you are not. --Jac O'keeffe

Bringing this up to the top. It's Friday night and I'm about to leave for work, and I'm gonna be passing a fuck ton of people having fun in the city on my way there.
Someone show some compassion and hook me up with some tunes for when I get there please!!!!!!!
