Pouring rubbing alcohol into mildewed carpet ?

So after discovering a leak in the FC that's been there for at least a week I began blotting up most of the water with a few towels. Now to kill off any molds and stop the carpet from becoming more smelly is it a good idea to dump some rubbing alcohol into it and then blot it out?
If so would 90% be ideal or is 70% worth using as that's what I have on hand.
How would you clean a small area (less than 1 square foot ) of carpet that has developed a slight odor?
Any help would be just swell

My hope is that I don't have to rent expensive equipment for such a small area. I guess if it was the only way I'd prep the house and do whole rooms

So carpet shampoo would just get blotted out like the excess water you think?

probably don't need special equipment. for the record, carpet shampooers are definitely not expensive to rent and simple to operate.

Just get a cheap bottle of 409 foaming carpet cleaner. It contains Isopropanol which should take care of any mildew.

409 is probably more so a degreaser than an anti septic

"Expensive" is subjective. $30-$40 is "expensive" to me for a situation that doesn't require me to spend it

if you've never shampooed you carpet, maybe a worthwhile investment to rent if it could reduce contaminants in the room you're keeping the sgfc

Yeah that's true, I did lose about 9 tubs after their 1st flush to the green. Caught moat of it early but those spores are still in there and probably will always be but it doesn't hurt to dwindle their numbers.
I'm running a martha not a sgfc btw
