i know it's been said before but i'll say it again. just legalize everything and regulate it. use the money to improve our communities and most importantly, allow trained chemists in labs the opportunity to produce pure drugs for low cost. this is how to battle impurities and this is how to battle addiction.

Don't put it that way, you're making me sympathize with prohibitionists.

The sad thing is that whilst this move could change the world overnight (imagine the money that would come pouring in; at a time when it's all cuts, cuts, cuts, we need this money in the system), but at the same time I know it's never gonna happen..

Vote for Gary Johnson, that's a Libertarian value. I agree the choice should be left up to peoples own free liberty and choice.
The War on Drugs is Nixon's bastard baby thinking it would help combat the "#1 American threat", drug abuse. Which is bullshit, in 1971 we were about to go to war with India.
Now, privatized prisons, rehabs, and other drug testing companies donate to modern politicians, so I don't think it will happen anytime soon.

I read something years ago about the average purity of seized street cocaine in London when tested by the police. In the 90's it was between 50-70. A decade or so later average purity when tested was between 3-30.

Drugs should most certainly be 100% legal. That's what freedom promotes. However we are living with brainwashed people here. Decades and decades of brainwashed Americans. They indoctrinate each other. It's a vicious cycle we will never be able to end.
We mine as well be shouting long live the brainwashed just to fit in, while hiding in secrecy right? Every one else is doing it legitimately.
I do not tho. Legalize substances!
The amount of brainwashed people.. it's insane. They will live their lives in a plastic see through box, never knowing the truth while bringing others inside to never get out.

I agree with op.
But if america(I'm assuming your from america, but it's pretty much applicable anywhere) really insists on keeping substances illegal, can we at least have doctors who actually KNOW about the drugs setting up the laws?
It blows my mind that cops can admit "I've never heard of that stuff, but it makes people act weird so it should be illegal" and they are the ones we put in charge of enforcing this shit.

No:
Nutt was dismissed from his ACMD position by the Home Secretary, Alan Johnson. Explaining his dismissal of Nutt, Alan Johnson wrote in a letter to The Guardian, that "He was asked to go because he cannot be both a government adviser and a campaigner against government policy. [...] As for his comments about horse riding being more dangerous than ecstasy, which you quote with such reverence, it is of course a political rather than a scientific point."[37] Responding in The Times, Professor Nutt said: "I gave a lecture on the assessment of drug harms and how these relate to the legislation controlling drugs. According to Alan Johnson, the Home Secretary, some contents of this lecture meant I had crossed the line from science to policy and so he sacked me. I do not know which comments were beyond the line or, indeed, where the line was [...]"[38]

decriminalizing all drugs is a step in the right direction. why should a drug have the power to lock someone up instead of the person's actions while under the influence of a drug? people will be themselves regardless. it's just like the gun control argument. i know plenty of responsible drug users that were either born that way or developed adequate self-control overtime by practicing trial and error. it would be just like alcohol, when the choice is constantly there at an affordable price without the risk of incrimination, people become more civilized and responsible. there will always still be the bad examples but making it illegal obviously doesn't solve their problems. i used to only feel this way about pot and psychedelics but i've recently adopted this view on all substances. even the ones that i myself don't use because i'm sure there are plenty of people out there that for whatever reason benefit from something that i have yet to experience and understand.

Personally I think there should be 2 prison systems. One for violent offenders and one for nonviolent/addiction problems. Each treated accordingly the only thing is that's never ever going to happen. The prison system is already a huge drain on the American people.

There is already 5 prison security levels. There is supermax, max, medium, low, and minimum.

They kind of do in a way, with prisons being categorized level 1-level 5, at least some states are that way, I don't know about feds, but think they do to.
Also, many prisons have drug treatment options for non-violent drug offenders, so you're never in with violent offenders, just do your time in a section of the prison, take your classes, and be on your way. Those types of things are the last stop before you got to big boy prison.
