Okay, one of my friends wants to order some peyote seeds online from another country, and was wondering how risky this might be. He doesn't have an alternate address to send them to. I can't imagine it would be too risky since they are just seeds, can drug dogs smell them?

Very safe. The overseas vendors will just put "Cactus Seeds" on them if you ask.

Drug dogs probably can smell them. They can smell damn near anything. But they aren't trained to do anything about it... as far as I know.

when my buddy got some seeds from europe they came in a software pack with a floppy disk in it... they were stuck into the corrugated cardboard packing material... IMO, the drug dog people would be pretty lucky to just happen upon your package... you're pretty safe if you don't tell anyone you ordered them

Be aware that if your package comes from The Netherlands that it will probably be opened. My wife is from there and everything gets opened, magazines, Christmas and birthday presents, candy, letters with photos - EVERYTHING. This is a consequence of The Netherlands having more rational drug laws that the U.S.

Odd... the few times I have ordered from the Netherlands, the packages came without being tampered with. This was before the 9/11 crap, so who knows what they are doing now...

It may be the customs entry point the packages come into (we're in Southern California), but I swear to Dog we get so many things that have been ripped open and re-closed that it is scary (and pisses us off quite a bit). Of course, I have been involved with political organizations that are anti-establishment so maybe I'm on the Fed's watch list.

it all depends on where it's from and where it's sent to really. im getting this from what i saw on the travel channel i think it was (maybe on animal planet because it was all about sniff dogs). for instance if you go from south america to miami you can expect a dog to sniff every piece of luggage before it hits the conveyer belt.

the stuff my friend is looking at is from the UK. Does anyone know if the risk of the mail being intercepted increases based on the size of the package? For instance if an actual cactus was ordered as opposed to seeds would that make it riskier. Im not sure if some sort of phytosanitary certificate is required, becuase I think that would make the package more questionable, also what would the penalty be for ordering a technically illegal substance?
