Is foil necessary with sfd filters when pressure cooking?
    #23459241 - 07/20/16 11:03 AM (7 years, 6 months ago)

It's a simple enough task. But curious if it's really necessary to use foil with sfd filters.

I've seen several people say that they don't use foil and do just fine. I personally use tinfoil though. My reasoning for using the foil is that I would assume the SFD would be wet when I take them out of the PC and I've always been paranoid of bacteria landing on the SFD while it was wet and coming through to the rye grain.

From what I've read though, that's all it is is paranoia and I could do away with the foil if I chose.

How to get started in bulk:
Presto 23-Quart Pressure Cooker
BOD's Simple as FUCK Still Air Box
PastyWhyte's Easy Agar Tek
Munchauzen's Cultivation Video Series
How EvilMushroom666 Prepares His Grains (I use jars with Synthetic Filter Discs)
What is G2G? (Grain-to-Grain)
Damion5050's Coir Tek (I use 5.5 - 6 quarts of water instead of 4. Also ignore step 13 and ignore the monotub completely. The only purpose of this tek is to show you how to make a simple substrate. I also add gypsum to it but not necessary)
Spitball's Monotub Tek (A liner isn't necessary but is useful)
Use 6500k lights throughout the whole process. When you wake up, turn the light on. When you go to sleep turn the light off. It's as simple as that.

I put foil on the jars standing straight up because water drips all over them. It has fucked my moisture content in the jars in the past. The jars lying on their sides on top don't get/need foil because no water gets in.

I don't use foil. I find that if I don't put too much water in the PC, my filters stay dry. I only fill to about an inch up the jars. That's with quarter sized SFD's. If I was using a full sized SFD, I would use foil.

Quarter sized, eh?  I use nickel sized with a 3/8th in hole.

On an atomic level yes, but fear is a social construct and your perspective could make it true too
