Do you believe Horoscopes?

I don't.
But this is just amazing, and may start to change my mind about this sort of stuff.
I've been doing a lot of thinking lately about how messed up this culture is, I even posted this thread discussing it a couple days ago. Particularly today I was feeling rather shitted about our societies customs and belief systems.
I was checking the weather on a news site, and also clicked on the horoscopes, cos I'm bored. I never usually look at horoscopes. But it said this about me:
Quote:
Society and the established culture may not exactly suit you at present Scorpio, as you seem to find many inconsistencies and shortcomings in your day to day affairs. Unfortunately, nobody is an island unto themselves and you must dig a little deeper to find the positive in these trying circumstances. By doing so you?ll revive your faith and hope in the order of things. These challenges are simply a test to help you grow.
I must say that sums up my feelings exactly, and the advice given kind of reminds me of what people were saying in that other thread I posted, about finding the humorous or happy side to things rather than getting upset about them, or something.

There was a really great segment on 20/20 long ago about horoscopes. The reporter went into a college classroom and got everybodies birthday. He then took all the dates to a "professional" astrologer. A week or so later he returned to the class and handed out all of the horoscopes. The students were amazed at how accurate the readings were. The reporter then asked the students to compare their own horoscope with the people around them. They were all the same. He handed out the exact same reading to everybody. He then informed the class that the horoscope was really for Jeffery Dalmer, the serial killer that ate his victims. The classroom full of college students went from 100% beleives to 100% nonbelievers in a few quick seconds.

That could apply equally as well to me...but I'm not a "scorpio"
Seuss had the right idea here, and I've heard of several such demonstrations done. Generally a horiscope for any given sign can be applied to anyone else.

Hehe, college students certainly sound gullible. Peace.

Interesting story Seuss. That's always been my understanding of horoscopes, astrology, tarot, I Ching etc. Despite the story with the college kids these systems are useful tools to explore yourself. They act as a mirror for us, so though they aren't "real" you can still get a lot out of them. Personally I stick with the I Ching.

Not if they aren't used in that way.
This applies to everything. It is all in your intent and what you get out of it. Peace.

You mean a tool isn't useful for its purpose if it isn't used for its purpose? Weird.

I get a certain vibe from people of different astrological signs. It's not something I can put into words, which is why I think horoscopes are so imperfect. They're trying to use words to describe the indescribable.

I got tricked like that before in Psychology. The teacher was demonstrating hindsight bias.

I had that trick played on me once too, except I didn't fall for it. As I was reading it, there are a few parts where I said, "Well, no, I don't think I am like that."

Life occurs in cycles; horoscopes are merely a generalized statements that are in tune with the natural occurences in life. They are basic enough that anyone can find a way to relate it to their personal life.

I loosly belive in it. I check it everyday and find that most of the time it fits what i came across that day. Sometimes it nails my feelings. I belive the movement of all matter in space has some kind of effect in ones spiritual life.

Try going to http//:alabe.com and be prepared to have the hour and minute of your birth. Don't forget to subtract an hour for daylight savings if appropriate. The free resulting chart - a moment of synchronicity that apparently has far-reaching effects on one's entire personality - is most impressive. There is a world of difference between my accurate time of birth and my earlier attempt which did not correct for daylight savings time. One hour away made a profile that does NOT reflect my attributes, while it is mind-blowing how accurate the correct chart is. Western astrology is quite complex: the sun sign is only part of it; the planets within the houses create different cosmic gestalts. Reading a newspaper daily horoscope is worthless, but this computer-generated chart is worth investigating.

I had my horoscope done and it pretty well reflected "me". I've read horoscopes for others, and I didn't think I could read me into them at all.
When I was younger and read my horoscope, I didn't think it sounded like "me". As I've gotten older, I think it sounds more like me.
I'm a cancer. What is everyone else?

It would be interesting to compare charts since we apparently were born on the same day - me at 5:55 AM.
