Stabilization Question: order of backcrossing. where does f3 come from?
    #23458736 - 07/20/16 08:00 AM (7 years, 6 months ago)

So i am familiarizing myself with the myco-genetic process as of late, my tag may say stranger, but i feel like i know you all so well lol i been lurking round here for ages... anyway i may be strange but not a dummy by far. background in botany and light biology...nothing ubertechnical mostly light cellular and chemical understandings... no doctor but one hell of an assistant. enough about me tho... intro's are for strangers....

swim wants to start a  PE/mdk cross for a giant spore producing BBC lol.......not necessarily the name tho it may fit if it works (from there its crs to give it a nipple hat make it look like tits ?

any way the main question they had was: is F3 a cross of F1 and F2 or does F2 go back to the parent
.

i told them i would ask cause i kinda had the same question on oysters.... i want to make a "skittles cake" of oysters for the farmers market, a strain with variable coloration that they can take home fruiting. totally irrelevant tho...///

was talking about an old thread i read from workman on his PFa and aPE crosses and stopped at f3, cloned, print and refruit-dilute (genepool) and kept going with that till he was stable. so is that pretty typical that around, say, f3-f5 you will likely be seeing what you want and can stop the backcross and grow out the few combo of pairs you have created? or did he get lucky... i seen where RR said about 7gens... main question tho... where does f3 come from? is f2 like plants and it goes back to parent as well??

TIA

had 11 views in 30 minutes. thats cool. most the stuff i read on here is old or drifted off topic. glad to know people are still around and fascinated like me. wish i could get past this f3 thing tho

RogerRabbit are you familiar with the grafted tree is the great wide world of fruit? like fruit cocktail tree or 5-in-1 stonefrutis (say peaches plums nectarines all on one tree)?  I know you are resident pro, loved the videos back in the day. got me on the right track as a young man. for that and all your other hard work and contributions i send much respect  wondering if you had any input on my multi strain or multicolored strain oyster project...

re:multicolored oysters.  not really possible since the some of the commerical strains are hybrids to begin with.  thus, they are sterile from spores.  you could try to break down the cell walls (protoplast fusion) but you're likely not going to get anywhere.  unlike cubensis, the different color oysters are different species.  with very different growth habits say between blue and pink.  or brown and yellow.  there is a big difference between the same species grown at different temperatures or at different states of maturity.  also, I think there's a blue-green "wild" oyster.  panellus serotinus that can show multicolored caps.  sorry, nature beat you to it

Thanks for the new species of oysters. i will have to look into that. as for nature beating me to it i am not ashamed at all. just shows me it was a good idea   as for protoplast i suspected that to be the case and was thinking i would try to isolate and then mix mulitple isolated variations bags hoping for natural anastomosis first tho.. i figured worst case scenario there would
just be a line there where they wouldnt meet. wasnt going to worry about contamination too much i know pasteur'straw and oyster to be a pretty hefty colony...
/You would happen to have any info on the F3 cube question would you? i know it will probably be one of the 'DUH' moments for me but i cant find the answer anywhere...

I just looked up the panellus serotinus.. i have seen those before. picked some last year and wanted to spore them . they were a lil different. had a serrated edge to them kinda sharp. the elf love them tho lol
